D1 Round 18 (Regular Season): Okzhetpes are defeated by Caspiy Aktau

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most important game in the last round took place in Aktau between second ranked Okzhetpes (16-7) and fourth ranked Caspiy Aktau (12-12) on Saturday night. Okzhetpes were defeated by Caspiy Aktau in a tough game on the road 63-69. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Okzhetpes. Caspiy Aktau forced 19 Okzhetpes turnovers and outrebounded them 49-31 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Caspiy Aktau looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Ukrainian Vladyslava Voloshina (177-2000, agency: BIG) scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Ukrainian forward Vira Cherkaska (184-2002) chipped in 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Russian swingman Daria Surkova (176-2001) with 30 points. Caspiy Aktau maintains fourth position with 12-12 record. Okzhetpes at the other side keep the second place with seven games lost.

The former international forward Zalina Kurazova (185-1985) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the effort and Ganna Rulyova supported her with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 14 points by center Valeria Petrova (184-1996) did not help to save the game for Turan. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Astana Tigers (23-1) have an impressive 20-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Defending champion Turan keeps the third place with ten games lost.

Turan - Astana Tigers 55-73

Very significant was Astana Tigers' (#1, 23-1) victory against 3rd ranked Turan (13-10) 73-55. Astana Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Turan's 22 and made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Astana Tigers forced 25 Turan turnovers and outrebounded them 43-23 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Astana Tigers players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The former international forward Zalina Kurazova (185-1985) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the effort and Ukrainian power forward Ganna Rulyova (183-1986, agency: BIG) supported her with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Rather expected game in Turkestan where 3rd ranked Turan (13-10) was defeated by first ranked Astana Tigers (23-1) 72-54 on Saturday. Astana Tigers made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Turan turnovers and outrebounded them 39-26 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Astana Tigers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Zalina Kurazova (185-1985) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds.
