Higher League Round 25 (Regular Season): Bars beat Shymkent by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 25 in the Higher League took place in Petropavlovsk. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Shymkent (18-5) to second ranked Bars (19-4) 69-66 in the game for the second place. Bars outrebounded Shymkent 53-37 including 38 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Sergey Dyatlik (194-1997) contributed with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) answered with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Shymkent. Bars have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 19-4 record having just one point less than leader Turan. Shymkent at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Bars are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Karaganda (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Shymkent will play against Tigers-KazATU (#5) in Astana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) stepped up and scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Artem Parfenov chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Shymkent's coach Muslim Shakirov used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side swingman Mikhail Mudragelya (193-2001) responded with 19 points. Shymkent maintains third place with 18-5 record behind leader Turan. ChelSU at the other side keeps the fourth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Tigers-KazATU. Shymkent will play against Tigers-KazATU (#5) in Astana in the next round. ChelSU will play on the road against the league's second-placed Bars in Petropavlovsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Turan (19-3) which hosted in Turkistan their biggest opponent Bars (19-4). First ranked Turan had an easy win 85-61. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Bars. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Alymzhan Maksutov nailed 28 points for the winning side. Maksim Nalogov came up with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for Bars in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Turan. They maintain first place with 19-3 record. Loser Bars keep the second position with four games lost. Turan will meet Champ1on (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Bars will play against Karaganda (#7) and hope to secure a win.

Other games in round 25 were not that significant. Tigers-KazATU beat ChelSU on the road 71-66. Karaganda won against Champ1on on its own court 69-64. Karaganda unfortunately lost to Tigers-KazATU in Astana 59-69.
The most impressive performance of 25th round was 11 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals by Sergei Bormatenkov of Turan.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Tigers-KazATU (9-14) beat 4th placed ChelSU (9-14) in Kostanay 71-66 on Sunday. Tigers-KazATU made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Forward Askar Akhmetzhan (198-1998) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and guard Roman Baybolov (188-2006) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Mikhail Mudragelya (193-2001) came up with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Maxim Zhukov (173-2001) added 13 points respectively for ChelSU in the defeat. There was a minor upset when their close opponent Champ1on (3-20) lost on the road to sixth ranked Karaganda (3-20) 69-64 on Sunday. Karaganda forced 19 Champ1on turnovers. Center Saveliy Shestak (200-2007) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side and guard Konstantin Teryukov (181-2000) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Bektimir Tau (200-2007) came up with 13 points and 7 rebounds and center Mikhail Chopov (204-2006) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Champ1on in the defeat. Champ1on's coach Maxim Rahimov tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Karaganda maintains sixth place with 3-20 record, which they share with defeated Champ1on. Champ1on lost their sixth game in a row. Karaganda will meet at home league's second-placed Bars in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
