D1 Round 14 (Regular Season): Okzhetpes defeat Turan in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 14 in the D1 took place in Kokshetay. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Turan (11-7) to third ranked Okzhetpes (11-6) 55-53 in the game for the second place. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Okzhetpes looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Russian power forward Olga Aksenova (187-1996) scored 6 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Russian swingman Kristina Goncharuk (175-2001, college: E.Florida St.) chipped in 11 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The former international guard Oksana Bagmet (170-1996) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Okzhetpes moved-up to second place. Defending champion Turan dropped to the third position with seven games lost. Okzhetpes are again looking forward to face Turan (#3) in Turkestan in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Turan will have a break next round.

The former international guard Anastassiya Alishauskayte-Lopatina (173-1988) notched 22 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Ganna Rulyova supported her with 8 points and 9 assists. Even 14 points and 6 rebounds by Belarusian Palina Verabei (184-2004) did not help to save the game for Turan. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Astana Tigers (18-1) have an impressive 15-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Defending champion Turan dropped to the third place with seven games lost. Astana Tigers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Caspiy Aktau at the other side keeps the fourth place with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
