Kazakhstan Higher League round 23 best performance: Aleksei Vereshagin

Forward Aleksei Vereshagin (200-F-1992) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for MBK Kazygurt Shymkent, receiving a Hoops Agents Higher League Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 32-year old player had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, while his team beat Tigers-KazATU (#5, 7-13) 77-70. Shymkent maintains the 3rd position in Kazakhstan Higher League. They are still close to the very top. Shymkent would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 16-4 record. In the team's last game Vereshagin had a remarkable 72.7% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Shymkent, through which he has constantly improved. Aleksei Vereshagin has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (9th best: 14.8ppg), rebounds (6th best: 8.1rpg) and averages impressive 51.7% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young Bektimir Tau (200-PF-2007) of Champ1on. Tau had a very good evening with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Champ1on was edged by the higher-ranked Turan (#1, 19-2) 65-64. Champ1on managed to keep the same 6th spot in the standings. 18 lost games are too many comparing to just three victories Champ1on managed to get this year. Tau is a newcomer at Champ1on, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Shymkent's star - guard Anuar Shakirov (180-PG-2000). Shakirov scored 19 points. He was another key player of MBK Kazygurt Shymkent, helping his team with a 77-70 win against slightly lower-ranked Tigers-KazATU (#5, 7-13). Shymkent is closer and closer to top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 16-4 record is not that bad... Shakirov has a great season in Kazakhstan. After 20 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 24.2ppg (best scorer) and assists with 4.8apg (5th best). He also has 2.7spg and a FGP of 52.4%.
