Higher League Round 20 (Regular Season): Shymkent beat ChelSU in the most crucial game of the week

The Regular Season in Higher League is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

An exciting game was played in Shymkent. Third ranked Shymkent faced 4th ranked ChelSU. Host Shymkent (14-4) defeated guests from Kostanay (8-10) 88-76. The best player for the winners was point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) who scored 25 points. Guard Victor Yuldashev (190-2002) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Shymkent's coach Muslim Shakirov used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Maxim Zhukov (173-2001) produced 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the guests. Shymkent moved-up to second place, which they share with Bars. ChelSU lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Shymkent is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Karaganda (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. ChelSU will play against the league's leader Turan and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.

It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Bars. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 9 rebounds. Begzod Mammatrimov contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Artem Kozyrkin (185-1998) replied with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Bars. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Turan maintains first position with 16-2 record. Bars at the other side keep the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Shymkent. Turan will play against ChelSU (#4) in Kostanay in the next round. Bars will have a break next round.

Karaganda lost seventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 17 lost games. Tigers-KazATU will meet Champ1on (#6) in the next round. Karaganda will play against Shymkent and hope to win that game.

Tigers-KazATU dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Karaganda's 32. Tigers-KazATU forced 23 Karaganda turnovers and outrebounded them 49-24 including a 24-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of guard Roman Baybolov (188-2006) who helped to win the game recording 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Askar Akhmetzhan (198-1998) who added 13 points and 11 rebounds during the contest.
