The most important game of round 1 was a defeat of Turan. They were defeated by Astana Tigers 59-44 on Saturday night. Astana Tigers forced 22 Turan turnovers. Ukrainian power forward Ganna Rulyova (183-1986, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 4 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international forward Zalina Kurazova (185-1985) chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side center Valeria Petrova (184-1996) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aktobe recorded a loss at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Caspiy Aktau 63-48. Tamar Papuashvili fired 17 points and 5 steals for the winners. Ulyana Kudrevtseva produced 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Aktobe's coach Aleksandr Drankov rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Caspiy Aktau will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aktobe will play against Okzhetpes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Turan destroyed Irtysh on the opponent's court 65-45. Irtysh lost to defending champion Turan in a home game 56-71. Caspiy Aktau recorded a loss to Aktobe on the road 59-61.
