D1 Round 17 (Regular Season): Turan lose to Astana Tigers

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The biggest surprise took place in Astana where host Astana Tigers (17-4) crushed league's leader Turan (17-4) 72-51 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Turan. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Astana Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Turan's 20. They outrebounded Turan 41-24 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international center Anna Bezgodova (192-1992) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Zalina Kurazova (185-1985) chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ukrainian power forward Ganna Rulyova (183-1986, agency: BIG) produced 10 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Astana Tigers keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aktobe and Turan.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Almaty. Second ranked Aktobe faced 4th placed Tomiris. Guests from Aktobe (17-4) defeated host Tomiris (11-10) 76-64. American guard Emily Lytle (180-1997, college: Virginia Tech) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Aleksandra Varaksina contributed with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Aktobe's coach Ilya Rodionov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international center Anna Bezgodova (192-1992) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for Tomiris. Aktobe have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Astana Tigers and Turan. Tomiris at the other side keep the fourth place with ten games lost.

In the last game of round 17 Caspiy Aktau was defeated by Okzhetpes in Kokshetay 74-70.

Everything could happen in Kokshetay at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Okzhetpes and 6th ranked Caspiy Aktau had identical 8-12 record. This time Okzhetpes used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Aktau 74-70. Okzhetpes dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Caspiy Aktau's 24. Okzhetpes had a 35-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international power forward Nadezhda Yakovleva (183-2003) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. Russian swingman Kristina Goncharuk (175-2001, college: E.Florida St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. International center Anastasiya Ilyasova (185-1998) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and Russian guard Alina Shakirova (170, college: UNBC) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Caspiy Aktau.
