D1 Round 14 (Regular Season): Turan beat Okzhetpes by three after a very close game

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Fifth-ranked Okzhetpes (7-11) were very close to win a game against second ranked Turan (15-3) in Turkestan on Monday. Turan managed to secure only three-point victory 65-62. However their fans expected easier game. Turan forced 30 Okzhetpes turnovers. Ukrainian power forward Ganna Rulyova (183-1986, agency: BIG) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Ukrainian Vladyslava Voloshyna (177-2000, agency: BIG) contributed with 10 points, 5 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Russian guard Ulyana Titova (168-2003) replied with 23 points and 8 rebounds for Okzhetpes. Turan have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Astana Tigers. Okzhetpes at the other side keep the fifth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Caspiy Aktau. Turan is looking forward to face Tomiris (#4) in Almaty in the next round. Okzhetpes will play at home against Barsy Atyrau and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Important game to mention about took place in Aktau. Fourth ranked Tomiris (10-8) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Caspiy Aktau (7-11) 86-85 in the game for the fourth place. Ukrainian Elizaveta Mitina (171-1998) had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Yana Kotova chipped in 25 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Georgian Tamar Papuashvili (180-2003) responded with 24 points. Tomiris maintains fourth position with 10-8 record. Caspiy Aktau at the other side dropped to the fifth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Okzhetpes. Tomiris will play against league's second-placed Turan in Turkestan in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Caspiy Aktau will play on the road against Irtysh in Pavlodar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
D1 top team - Astana Tigers (15-3) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Barsy Atyrau (1-17) 105-28. Tamara Kuzmina-Yagodkina notched 21 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort. Astana Tigers' coach Vitaliy Strebkov felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 10 points by Kurbanay Tabirova did not help to save the game for Barsy Atyrau. Astana Tigers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-3 record, which they share with Turan. Barsy Atyrau lost fourteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 17 lost games. Astana Tigers will meet at home Aktobe (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Barsy Atyrau will play against Okzhetpes (#5) in Kokshetay and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 14 Irtysh was smashed by Aktobe on the road 86-63.

Barsy Atyrau - Astana Tigers 28-105

D1 top team - Astana Tigers (15-3) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Barsy Atyrau (1-17) 105-28. Astana Tigers well out of reach of Barsy Atyrau shooting 74.2 percent from the field. They also forced 21 Barsy Atyrau turnovers and outrebounded them 39-19 including a 33-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Astana Tigers especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 71.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 1 passes made by Barsy Atyrau's players. The former international forward Tamara Kuzmina-Yagodkina (182-1990) notched 21 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international guard Anastassiya Alishauskayte-Lopatina (173-1988) supported her with 16 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Aktobe - Irtysh 86-63

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Aktobe (14-4) crushed at home 7th ranked Irtysh (3-15) 86-63 on Monday. Aktobe forced 26 Irtysh turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Russian power forward Olga Aksenova (187-1996) notched 20 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and American guard Emily Lytle (180-1997, college: Virginia Tech) supported her with 20 points. Four Aktobe players scored in double figures. Even 25 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Ashiala Jackson (186-1998, college: Tuskegee) did not help to save the game for Irtysh. Point guard Xeniya Abdurashitova (168-2001) added 9 points and 4 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aktobe maintains third position with 14-4 record behind leader Astana Tigers. Irtysh lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 15 games lost. Aktobe will meet league's leader Astana Tigers on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
