Higher League Round 14 (Regular Season): Tigers-KazATU beat Shymkent in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Shymkent. First ranked Tigers-KazATU faced second-ranked Shymkent. Guests from Astana (14-1) smashed host Shymkent (11-4) 102-80. Tigers-KazATU dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Shymkent's 38. They outrebounded Shymkent 44-28 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tigers-KazATU looked well-organized offensively handing out 39 assists comparing to just 25 passes made by Shymkent's players. The best player for the winners was forward Ruslanbek Marat (201-2005) who scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Nurislam Abilseytuly (193-2003) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) produced 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. Shymkent's coach Muslim Shakirov gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Tigers-KazATU maintains first position with 14-1 record. Shymkent at the other side keeps the second place with four games lost. Tigers-KazATU are looking forward to face Turan (#3) in Turkistan in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Shymkent will play on the road against Karaganda and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Kostanay was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Bars (10-5) played at the court of 5th ranked ChelSU (5-9). Bars did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 73-55. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of ChelSU. Power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Sergey Dyatlik contributed with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Guard Dmitriy Luchko (193-1997) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for ChelSU. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bars moved-up to third place, which they share with Turan. ChelSU at the other side keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Bars will play against Barsy 2 (#6) in Atyrau in the next round. ChelSU will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 14 bottom-ranked Altay was defeated by Turan in Turkistan 107-96. Barsy 2 was beaten by Karaganda at home 64-76.
The best stats of 14th round was 16 points and 10 rebounds by Eset Zharkylov of Tigers-KazATU.



Turan - Altay 107-96

There was no surprise in Turkistan where 8th ranked Altay (1-13) was defeated by third ranked Turan (10-5) 107-96. Strangely Altay outrebounded Turan 47-29 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Turan players were unselfish on offense dishing 42 assists comparing to just 28 passes made by Altay's players. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 17 assists and 5 steals. Power forward Begzod Mammatrimov (198-2004) contributed with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Turan's coach Yunus Irismetov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Aleksei Kurochka (180-1994) replied with 42 points (!!!) and 6 assists and swingman Sergey Kononov (193-2006) added 14 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Altay. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Turan maintains third position with 10-5 record having four points less than leader Tigers-KazATU, which they share with Bars. Altay lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Turan will play against league's leader Tigers-KazATU in Astana in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Altay will have a break next round.
