D1 Round 4 (Regular Season): Turan lose their first game against Astana Tigers

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Turan (3-1) on the court of third ranked Astana Tigers on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Astana Tigers 65-51. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Turan. Astana Tigers held Turan to an opponent 24.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 48.1 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Turan 46-23 including a 40-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Astana Tigers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Anna Bezgodova (192-1992) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and the former international forward Tamara Kuzmina-Yagodkina (182-1990) who added 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Elmira Abikeyeva (169-1997) responded with 17 points and 4 assists. Astana Tigers moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Turan. Astana Tigers is looking forward to face Okzhetpes (#4) in Kokshetay in the next round. Turan will play on the road against Caspiy Aktau and is hoping to win this game.
Very significant was Barsy Atyrau's (#7) 84-74 road victory against bottom-ranked Irtysh. The winners were led by American-Syrian guard Randi Brown (173-1996, college: New Orleans) who scored that evening 39 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and Jnaya Walker supported her with 21 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 20 points and 6 rebounds by the former international forward Valeriya Kapitonova (176-2001) did not help to save the game for Irtysh. Barsy Atyrau (1-3) left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Caspiy Aktau. It was Irtysh's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Barsy Atyrau will play against league's leader Aktobe at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Irtysh will play against Tomiris (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Tomiris at the other side keep the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Okzhetpes. Aktobe will meet Barsy Atyrau (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Tomiris will play against Irtysh in Pavlodar and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 4 Caspiy Aktau lost to Okzhetpes on the opponent's court 67-85.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Almaty. 4th ranked host Tomiris (2-2) lost to top-ranked Aktobe (4-0) 67-51. Aktobe made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Aktobe outrebounded Tomiris 51-22 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Emily Lytle (180-1997, college: Virginia Tech) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Russian power forward Daria Polnikova (188-1994) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Everything could happen in Kokshetay at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Okzhetpes and 5th ranked Caspiy Aktau had identical 1-2 record. This time Okzhetpes used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Aktau 85-67 on Saturday night. Okzhetpes looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The former international power forward Nadezhda Yakovleva (183-2003) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Russian swingman Daria Surkova (176-2001) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists. Four Okzhetpes players scored in double figures. Russian forward Elizaveta Galynina (182-2003) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Alexandra Petelina (168-1998) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Okzhetpes (2-2) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tomiris. Loser Caspiy Aktau dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Barsy Atyrau.
