Higher League Round 5 (Regular Season): Karaganda defeat ChelSU in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Higher League took place in Kostanay. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked ChelSU (1-4) to eighth ranked Karaganda (1-4) 84-81 in the game for the sixth place. 24 personal fouls committed by ChelSU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Pavel Brukhovets (175-2001) stepped up and scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and swingman Medeu Aukesh (195-2005) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Vasiliy Belozor (186-2001) responded with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. ChelSU's coach Alexander Derbush tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Karaganda left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with ChelSU and Altay. It was ChelSU's fourth loss in a row.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Turan (3-2) against fourth ranked Bars (3-2) on Sunday night. Host Turan was defeated by Bars in a tough game at home 82-87. Power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) nailed 32 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Sergey Dyatlik accounted for 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 7 rebounds and 13 assists for Turan in the defeat. Bars moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Turan.
Higher League top team - Tigers-KazATU (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked Barsy 2 (2-3) in Atyrau 79-61. The best player for the winners was Eset Zharkylov who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Alisher Muratuly produced 13 points and 9 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Tigers-KazATU have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Newly promoted Tigers-KazATU maintains first place with 5-0 record. Barsy 2 at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost.

In the last game of round 5 Altay was destroyed by Shymkent on the opponent's court 92-70.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 17 points and 6 assists by Ismail Bimendin of Tigers-KazATU.




Shymkent - Altay 92-70

Very expected game when 6th ranked Altay (1-4) was crushed on the road by second ranked Shymkent (4-1) 92-70 on Sunday. Shymkent dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Altay's 38. Strangely Altay outrebounded Shymkent 56-42 including a 28-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Altay's players. The best player for the winners was point guard Akbar Ibrahimov (180-2003) who scored 27 points. Guard Artem Gaus (190-2006) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Four Shymkent players scored in double figures. Forward Egor Glushchenko (200-1980) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Aleksei Kurochka (180-1994) added 27 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shymkent have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 4-1 record behind leader Tigers-KazATU. Altay at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Karaganda and ChelSU.

Bars outrebounded Turan 39-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists.
