Higher League Round 32: Caspiy Aktau defeat Irtysh in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 32 in the Higher League took place in Pavlodar. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Irtysh (14-18) to eighth ranked Caspiy Aktau (14-18) 61-60 in the game for the fifth place. Caspiy Aktau looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Zhanibek Dzhakauov (172-2002) who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international guard Danil Davletbaev (185-1999) who added 14 points during the contest. Caspiy Aktau's coach Evgeny Gorev used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Vadim Bagrov (187-2000) responded with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Caspiy Aktau have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Irtysh. Caspiy Aktau is looking forward to face higher ranked Karaganda (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Irtysh will play against Gotobeles in Nur-Sultan and is hoping to win this game.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Karaganda. 4th ranked host Karaganda (21-11) lost to second ranked Bars (28-4) 94-81. The winners were led by forward Artem Parfenov (198-1998) who scored that evening 36 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Maksim Nalogov supported him with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists. Even 28 points and 6 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) by forward Alexey Alyonushka (190-1995) did not help to save the game for Karaganda. Karaganda's coach Alexander Tyutyunik rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bars have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 28-4 record having just three points less than leader Shymkent. Karaganda at the other side keeps the fourth place with 11 games lost. Bars will play against league's leader Shymkent at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Karaganda will play against Caspiy Aktau and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Higher League top team - Shymkent (31-1) added another victory to their record on Monday. This time they beat sixth ranked Barsy 2 (14-18) 74-66. The best player for the winners was Victor Yuldashev who scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Shymkent's coach Muslim Shakirov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Sabyrzhan Ibragimov produced 11 points and 4 assists for the guests. Shymkent have an impressive 20-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 31-1 record. Loser Barsy 2 dropped to the fifth place with 18 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Shymkent will meet league's second-placed Bars in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Barsy 2 will play against Altay and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 32: Almaty L. destroyed Tigers-KazATU on the opponent's court 98-58. Aktobe 2 unfortunately lost to Gotobeles in a home game 84-91. ChelSU managed to beat Altay on the road 77-59.



Tigers-KazATU - Almaty L. 58-98

Rather expected game in Astana where 6th ranked Tigers-KazATU (14-18) was crushed by third ranked Almaty L. (27-5) 98-58 on Monday. Almaty L. dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Tigers-KazATU's 34. Almaty L. forced 21 Tigers-KazATU turnovers and outrebounded them 55-33 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Almaty L. looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Tigers-KazATU's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Almaty L. made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Daniel Albrant (205-1998) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Daniil Severgin (183-2005) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. Four Almaty L. players scored in double figures. Swingman Temirlan Dzhunusov (192-1999) produced 21 points and forward Ruslanbek Marat (201-2005) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Almaty L. maintains third position with 27-5 record having four points less than leader Shymkent. Tigers-KazATU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth place with 18 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Almaty L. will meet Aktobe 2 (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tigers-KazATU will play against ChelSU (#10) in Kostanay and hope to secure a win.

Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Gotobeles (11-21) defeated on the road 11th ranked Aktobe 2 (5-27) 91-84 on Monday. They outrebounded Aktobe 2 55-32 including a 24-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gotobeles looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was swingman Eset Zharkylov (195-1998) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 27 rebounds. Guard Tair Meirahanov (183-2000) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists. Point guard Bibarys Aytkulov (177-2005) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists and guard Kairat Utegen (189-2004) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Aktobe 2 players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Gotobeles maintains ninth position with 11-21 record. Aktobe 2 lost eighth consecutive game. Aktobe 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh place with 27 games lost. Not a big story in a game in Oskemen where 12th ranked Altay (3-29) was defeated by tenth ranked ChelSU (10-22) 77-59 on Monday. ChelSU forced 33 Altay turnovers. Strangely Altay outrebounded ChelSU 42-28 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Dmitriy Luchko (193-1997) who scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Artem Pedko (191-2000) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists. Forward Vladislav Baturin (188-1995) produced 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Atay Altun (186-1997) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted ChelSU maintains tenth position with 10-22 record. Altay lost fifth consecutive game. Altay at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay dead last with 29 lost games. ChelSU will meet at home higher ranked Tigers-KazATU (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Altay will play against Barsy 2 (#6) in Atyrau and hope to secure a win.
