Higher League Round 25: Caspiy Aktau defeat Bars in the closest game of the week- March 17, 2023

Tigers-KazATU - Shymkent 93-100 Higher League top team - Shymkent (26-1) added another victory to their record on Wednesday. This time they beat sixth ranked Tigers-KazATU (12-15) in Astana 100-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tigers-KazATU. Shymkent looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists. Point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) chipped in 28 points and 6 assists. Guard Artur Junusov (191-2003) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and forward Ruslanbek Marat (201-2005) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Shymkent and five Tigers-KazATU players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shymkent have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 26-1 record. Newly promoted Tigers-KazATU keeps the sixth position with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. This time newly promoted Altay won against fifth-ranked Irtysh in Oskemen 74-70. Strangely Irtysh outrebounded Altay 51-30 including a 18-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Forward Vladislav Baturin (188-1995) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and forward Atay Altun (186-1997) accounted for 24 points. Vadim Bagrov (187-2000) came up with 12 points and 8 rebounds and guard Ali Isagulov (186-2004) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Irtysh in the defeat. Four Irtysh players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Altay maintains twelfth place with 3-24 record. Irtysh lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 14 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. Karaganda made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Aktobe 2 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. Forward Alexey Alyonushka (190-1995) fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Dias Katarbay (183-2001) chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Baynazar Omarov (185-2004) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Kairat Utegen (189-2004) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Karaganda. They moved-up to third place. Aktobe 2 lost their third game in a row. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of much higher ranked Bars (21-3) to tenth ranked Caspiy Aktau (8-15) 77-75 on Thursday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Strangely Bars outrebounded Caspiy Aktau 49-30 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Guard Zahar Medovskoy (188-2006) stepped up and scored 16 points and 4 assists for the winners and swingman Dmitry Denisov (194-2005) chipped in 17 points. Four Caspiy Aktau players scored in double figures. Caspiy Aktau's coach Evgeny Gorev used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Artem Parfenov (196-1998) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Caspiy Aktau moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Gotobeles. Bars at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Caspiy Aktau is looking forward to face higher ranked Barsy 2 (#7) in Atyrau in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bars will play on the road against ChelSU (#10) in Kostanay and are hoping to win this game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Guard Akylbek Oralbekov (186-2002) fired 19 points, 7 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Guard Sabyrzhan Ibragimov (185-2004) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Barsy 2's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Swingman Eset Zharkylov (195-1998) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and Yernar Zheksenbayev (187-2001) added 12 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Barsy 2 maintains seventh place with 10-14 record. Newly promoted Gotobeles keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Caspiy Aktau. Barsy 2 will meet Caspiy Aktau (#9) on the road in the next round. Gotobeles will play against Almaty L. and hope to secure a win.
