Higher League Round 19: Bottom-ranked Altay wins against Tigers-KazATU

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bottom-ranked Altay managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of six consecutive losses on Thursday night. This time newly promoted Altay won against sixth-ranked Tigers-KazATU in Oskemen 92-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Tigers-KazATU. Altay looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Alexander Antropov (195-1993) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Vladislav Baturin (188-1995) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. point guard Dastan Kaldybaev (180-2001) answered with 22 points and 6 rebounds for Tigers-KazATU. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Altay maintains twelfth place with 2-19 record. Tigers-KazATU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Irtysh. Altay are looking forward to face higher ranked Irtysh (#5) in Pavlodar in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tigers-KazATU will play at home against the league's leader Shymkent having rather not much hope for a victory.
Higher League top team - Shymkent (20-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked Irtysh (10-11) in Pavlodar 81-55. It was a great evening for forward Aleksei Vereshagin (200-1992) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Zhalgasbek Kadyr helped adding 7 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists. At the losing side guard Shakhnazar Zhandarbek (190-2004) responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shymkent have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-1 record. Irtysh lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Tigers-KazATU. Shymkent will play against Tigers-KazATU (#6) in Astana in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Shymkent. They maintain first place with 20-1 record. Newly promoted Aktobe 2 keeps the eleventh position with 17 games lost.
