Higher League Round 15: Shymkent defeats Karaganda in the game between Top 4 teams- December 24, 2022

Shymkent - Altay 126-67 Bottom-ranked Altay is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 13th consecutive match to third ranked Shymkent (13-1) 126-67 on Friday evening. Shymkent dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Altay's 34 and made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Altay only scored six points from the stripe. Shymkent forced 19 Altay turnovers and outrebounded them 45-32 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Altay's players. It was an exceptional evening for guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 8 assists. Mukhammadali Mirza (185-1997) accounted for 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Five Shymkent players scored in double figures. Point guard Sergey Ivanov (178-1998) came up with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Stanislav Gorbenko (189-1999) added 19 points respectively for Altay in the defeat. Altay's coach Sergey Boriseev gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Shymkent moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Altay still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Shymkent will meet at home Aktobe 2 (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. It was an exceptional evening for forward Alexey Alyonushka (190-1995) who led the winners and scored 25 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Russian Ivan Shetinkin (203-2002) accounted for 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Swingman Temirlan Dzhunusov (192-1999) came up with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and center Rustam Lukmanov (197-1999) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Tigers-KazATU in the defeat. Tigers-KazATU's coach Mikhail Nohai tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Karaganda maintains fourth place with 9-5 record. Vadim Bagrov (187-2000) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Bogdan Lashch (192-1999) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Kairat Utegen (189-2004) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Aktobe 2 in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Irtysh have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Aktobe 2 lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. Irtysh will meet higher ranked Karaganda (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. It was a good game for point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) who led his team to a victory with 38 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Balabiy Agabek (190-1996) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Forward Alexey Alyonushka (190-1995) answered with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Adil Kuantaev (185-2005) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Karaganda. Four Karaganda players scored in double figures. Karaganda's coach Alexander Tyutyunik rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Shymkent moved-up to second place. It was an exceptional evening for Vadim Bagrov (187-2000) who led the winners and scored 16 points. Guard Pavel Bruhovets (174-2001) accounted for 7 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Irtysh players scored in double figures. Swingman Temirlan Dzhunusov (192-1999) came up with 24 points and 7 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and swingman Dinislam Abilseytuly (193-2003) added 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Tigers-KazATU in the defeat. Strangely Aktobe 2 outrebounded Altay 57-42 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Aktobe 2 was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for forward Vladislav Baturin (188-1995) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Sergey Ivanov (178-1998) helped adding 10 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Altay players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Bogdan Lashch (192-1999) with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Kairat Utegen (189-2004) scored 9 points and 10 rebounds. Newly promoted Altay maintains twelfth place with 0-13 record. Aktobe 2 lost sixth consecutive game. Aktobe 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. Altay will play against higher ranked Tigers-KazATU (#9) in Astana in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aktobe 2 will play on the road against the league's second-placed Shymkent where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
