Higher League Round 6: Bars lose to Shymkent

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Bars (5-1) in Petropavlovsk on Tuesday night. Hosts were rolled over by Shymkent (6-0) 90-66. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Bars. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Shymkent dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Bars' 24. They outrebounded Bars 48-37 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Shymkent looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) who scored 32 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-2000) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Shymkent's coach Muslim Shakirov felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. Undefeated Shymkent have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Bars at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Almaty L..
Barsy 2 can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Altay (0-6) 123-55. It was a good game for forward Begzod Mammatrimov (198-2004) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Akylbek Oralbekov contributed with 18 points, 13 assists and 9 steals for the winners. Swingman Sergey Kononov (193-2006) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for Altay. Altay's coach Sergey Boriseev gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Barsy 2 (1-5) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. It was Altay's sixth loss in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with six games lost.
The game in Aktau was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Karaganda (4-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Caspiy Aktau (2-4). Karaganda defeated Caspiy Aktau 69-56 on Tuesday. Alexey Alyonushka had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Zahar Medovskoy with 17 points. Caspiy Aktau's coach Evgeny Gorev rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Karaganda maintains fourth position with 4-2 record. Loser Caspiy Aktau keeps the eighth place with four games lost. They share the position with Aktobe 2 and ChelSU.

Rest of the games of round 6 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Tigers-KazATU defeated ChelSU in Astana 79-76. Gotobeles smashed Irtysh at home 91-67. Almaty L. destroyed Aktobe 2 on the opponent's court 84-63.



ChelSU - Tigers-KazATU 76-79

Everything could happen in Kostanay at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Tigers-KazATU and 8th ranked ChelSU had identical 2-3 record. But ChelSU was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Astana 79-76 on Tuesday night. Tigers-KazATU looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Guard Vadim Dots (185-2003) scored 26 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and center Rustam Lukmanov (197-1999) chipped in 15 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Tigers-KazATU's coach Mikhail Nohai used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was guard Artem Pedko (191-2000) with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Dmitry Tkach (193-2003) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tigers-KazATU (3-3) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Irtysh and Gotobeles. ChelSU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Caspiy Aktau and Aktobe 2.

There was a surprise result in Nur-Sultan where ninth ranked Gotobeles (3-3) smashed one of their biggest challengers Irtysh (3-3) 91-67 on Tuesday. They outrebounded Irtysh 49-35 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gotobeles looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Victor Verzun (197-2001) had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Daulet Bekbauov (191-1999) chipped in 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Gotobeles players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Shahmurat Satkeev (198-1997) with 12 points and 5 rebounds and Vadim Bagrov (187-2000) scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Gotobeles moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Irtysh and Tigers-KazATU.

Very expected game when 9th ranked Aktobe 2 (2-4) was rolled over at home by third ranked Almaty L. (5-1) 84-63 on Tuesday. Almaty L. dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Aktobe 2's 28. Almaty L. forced 26 Aktobe 2 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Center Daniel Albrant (205-1998) scored 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Nikita Timofeev (199-1998) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Almaty L. players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Baynazar Omarov (185-2004) with 21 points and 8 steals and guard Chingiz Doskeev (185-2005) scored 11 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Almaty L. have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Bars. Aktobe 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Caspiy Aktau and ChelSU.
