Higher League Round 3: Almaty L. lose to Shymkent

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Higher League took place in Shymkent where host Shymkent (4-0) edged Almaty L. (2-1) 98-96 on Saturday evening. Shymkent forced 20 Almaty L. turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Almaty L. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) who scored 41 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Forward Aleksei Vereshagin (200-1992) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Daniil Severgin (183-2005) who recorded 27 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Almaty L.'s coach Nikolai Tanaseychuk rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Almaty L. will play next round against Altay trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Shymkent will try to continue on its current victory against ChelSU in Kostanay.
The game in Astana was also worth to mention about. Caspiy Aktau (1-2) played at the court of Tigers-KazATU (2-1). Tigers-KazATU managed to secure a 8-point victory 78-70. It was a good game for center Rustam Lukmanov (197-1999) who led his team to a victory with 32 points and 8 rebounds. Pavel Vymotov contributed with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Swingman Dmitry Denisov (194-2005) answered with 21 points and 7 rebounds for Caspiy Aktau. Caspiy Aktau's coach Evgeny Gorev tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tigers-KazATU will play against Gotobeles (#9) in Nur-Sultan in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Caspiy Aktau will play on the road against Aktobe 2 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Oskemen. Local Altay (0-3) was outscored by Gotobeles (1-2) 102-47 on Saturday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Eset Zharkylov who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Sergey Ivanov with 13 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gotobeles will meet at home Tigers-KazATU (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Altay will play against Almaty L. (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Other games of round 3 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Barsy 2 was defeated by Irtysh in Pavlodar 73-68. Karaganda smashed ChelSU at home 70-39. Bars destroyed Aktobe 2 on the opponent's court 99-45.
The best stats of 3rd round was 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists by Victor Verzun of Gotobeles.



Irtysh - Barsy 2 73-68

There was no surprise in Pavlodar where Barsy 2 (0-4) was defeated by Irtysh (2-1) 73-68 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Irtysh forced 22 Barsy 2 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for guard Ali Isagulov (186-2004) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Shakhnazar Zhandarbek (190-2004) helped adding 13 points and 9 rebounds. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was forward Begzod Mammatrimov (198-2004) with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Sabyrzhan Ibragimov (185-2004) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Irtysh will meet Bars in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barsy 2 will play against Karaganda (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

No shocking result in a game when Karaganda (3-1) smashed at home ChelSU (1-3) 70-39 on Saturday. Karaganda held ChelSU to an opponent 23.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Karaganda forced 31 ChelSU turnovers. It was a great evening for forward Alexey Alyonushka (190-1995) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Dias Zhambeisov (185-2001) helped adding 18 points and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was guard Arsen Mzikyan (190-2006) with 7 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Maxim Zhukov (173-2001) scored 9 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Karaganda will meet Barsy 2 (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ChelSU will play against Shymkent and hope to win that game.

Aktobe 2 - Bars 45-99

Very expected game when Aktobe 2 (1-2) was rolled over at home by Bars (3-0) 99-45 on Saturday. Bars dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Aktobe 2's 16. Bars forced 28 Aktobe 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 43-18 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Aktobe 2's players. It was a great evening for power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Forward Sergey Dyatlik (194-1997) helped adding 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Bars players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Nikita Lytyh (196-2004) with 10 points and point guard Karim Kavkaev (175-2003) scored 7 points.
