Higher League Round 25: Kazygurt lose to Qazaqstan

The Regular Season in Higher League is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Top ranked Kazygurt (20-2) recorded its second loss in Alma-Ata on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Qazaqstan (20-3) 78-71. It ended at the same time the 16-game winning streak of Kazygurt. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Qazaqstan dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kazygurt's 16. They outrebounded Kazygurt 53-29 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Ismail Bimendin (180-1992) fired 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. point guard Aziz Yalkunov (189-1997) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Qazaqstan's coach Aidana Iskakova used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) produced 26 points for lost side. Qazaqstan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Bars. Kazygurt at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Qazaqstan is looking forward to face ChelSU (#9) in Kostanay in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kazygurt will play at home against Jambyl (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
The game in Jambyl supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Karaganda (15-9) played at the court of 7th ranked Jambyl (5-18). Karaganda smashed Jambyl 88-48. Worth to mention a great performance of Dias Katarbay (183-2001) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Konstantin Teryukov contributed with 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Andrey Portnyagin (181-1994) answered with 15 points and 9 rebounds for Jambyl. Karaganda have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 15-9 record. Newly promoted Jambyl keeps the seventh position with 18 games lost. Karaganda will play against higher ranked Barsy 2 (#4) in Atyrau in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jambyl will play on the road against the league's leader Kazygurt in Shymkent and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Maksim Nalogov stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the winners. At the losing side Adilbek Bitenov responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bars have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 20-3 record having just one point less than leader Kazygurt, which they share with Qazaqstan. ChelSU lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 19 games lost. Bars will meet bottom-ranked Astana-2 (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ChelSU will play against Qazaqstan and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 25 bottom-ranked Astana-2 were crushed by Irtysh in Pavlodar 89-61. Barsy 2 smashed Namys at home 94-72.



Irtysh - Astana-2 89-61

There was no surprise in Pavlodar where 10th ranked Astana-2 (2-21) was crushed by sixth ranked Irtysh (10-14) 89-61 on Monday. Irtysh forced 25 Astana-2 turnovers and outrebounded them 39-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Aleksei Umnov (197-2001) stepped up and scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and guard Meyrambek Shamuratov (177-2001) chipped in 22 points (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). Four Irtysh players scored in double figures. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side guard Askar Serimbet (181-2006) responded with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and forward Alizhan Ydyryszhan (197-2003) scored 23 points. Irtysh maintains sixth place with 10-14 record. Astana-2 lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 21 lost games. Irtysh will meet Namys (#8) in the next round. Astana-2 will play against the league's second-placed Bars and hope to secure a win.

Power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the winners and forward Sergey Dyatlik (194-1997) chipped in 19 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Bars players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Adilbek Bitenov (174-2001) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Artem Pedko (191-2000) scored 16 points and 4 steals. No shocking result in a game in Atyrau where fourth ranked Barsy 2 (16-8) smashed 8th ranked Namys (5-19) 94-72 on Monday. Barsy 2 made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Barsy 2 outrebounded Namys 39-25 including a 29-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Mahamtet Kazimov (194-2003) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Bogdan Rabchenyuk (186-2003) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. Four Barsy 2 players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Timur Snegirev (186-2004) responded with 27 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and swingman Madiyar Jakenov (191-2002) scored 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Namys' coach Ernar Duanaev gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Barsy 2 maintains fourth place with 16-8 record. Newly promoted Namys keep the eighth position with 19 games lost. Barsy 2 will meet Karaganda (#5) on the road in the next round. Namys will play against Irtysh and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
