Higher League Round 24: Qazaqstan defeat Barsy 2 in the closest game of the week

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Fourth-ranked Barsy 2 (14-8) gave a tough game to third ranked Qazaqstan (19-3) in Alma-Ata on Monday. Qazaqstan managed to secure only one-point victory 70-69. However their fans expected easier game. Qazaqstan outrebounded Barsy 2 49-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Temirlan Dzhunusov (192-1999) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and swingman Eset Zharkylov (195-1998) who added 14 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Rahat Tauken (185-2002) with 22 points. Qazaqstan moved-up to second place, which they share with Bars. Barsy 2 at the other side keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with Karaganda.
The game in Jambyl was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Irtysh (8-14) played at the court of seventh ranked Jambyl (5-17). Jambyl managed to secure a 4-point victory 110-106. The winners were led by guard Andrey Portnyagin (181-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and Berik Zulharnai supported him with 30 points and 9 rebounds. Even 28 points and 7 rebounds by guard Amirali Suleimenov (190-2003) did not help to save the game for Irtysh. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Jambyl maintains seventh position with 5-17 record, which they share with Namys. Irtysh lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 14 games lost.
Eighth ranked Namys (5-17) crushed at home 10th ranked Astana-2 (2-20) by 28 points 88-60, which is the biggest margin this round on Monday night. The best player for the winners was Vladislav Isaenko who scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was Askar Serimbet who recorded 10 points and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Namys moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Jambyl. Astana-2 lost fourth consecutive game. Astana-2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay dead last with 20 lost games.

In the last game of round 24 ChelSU was destroyed by Karaganda on the opponent's court 90-63.



Karaganda - ChelSU 90-63

Rather expected game when 8th ranked ChelSU (4-18) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Karaganda (14-8) 90-63 on Monday. Karaganda dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to ChelSU's 30. Karaganda forced 26 ChelSU turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Stanislav Sahipov (190-2002) who scored 22 points and 5 assists. Dias Katarbay (183-2001) chipped in 23 points and 8 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Adilbek Bitenov (174-2001) who recorded 21 points and forward Dmitry Tkach (193-2003) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Karaganda moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Barsy 2. Newly promoted ChelSU dropped to the ninth position with 18 games lost.

Jambyl - Irtysh 110-106

The game in Jambyl was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Irtysh (8-14) played at the court of seventh ranked Jambyl (5-17). Jambyl managed to secure a 4-point victory 110-106. Jambyl made 32-of-37 charity shots (86.5 percent) during the game, while Irtysh only scored sixteen points from the stripe. Jambyl forced 33 Irtysh turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Irtysh was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by guard Andrey Portnyagin (181-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and guard Berik Zulharnai (183-1994) supported him with 30 points and 9 rebounds. Eighth ranked Namys (5-17) crushed at home 10th ranked Astana-2 (2-20) by 28 points 88-60, which is the biggest margin this round on Monday night. Namys shot 62.3 percent from the field. Namys outrebounded Astana-2 38-19 including a 31-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Namys especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Vladislav Isaenko (193-2004) who scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Guard Timur Snegirev (186-2004) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Namys players scored in double figures.
