Higher League Round 23: Top-ranked Kazygurt win another game

Higher League top team - Kazygurt (20-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed eighth ranked ChelSU (4-17) in Kostanay 100-35. Kazygurt held ChelSU to an opponent 21.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 50.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Kazygurt forced 20 ChelSU turnovers and outrebounded them 55-27 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by ChelSU's players. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Forward Aleksei Vereshagin (200-1992) contributed with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Forward Dmitry Tkach (193-2003) answered with 6 points and 7 rebounds for ChelSU. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kazygurt have an impressive series of sixteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-1 record. Newly promoted ChelSU dropped to the seventh position with 17 games lost. They share it with Jambyl and Namys. Kazygurt will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. ChelSU will play on the road against Karaganda (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Pavlodar supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Bars (19-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Irtysh (8-13). Bars smashed Irtysh 84-62. It was a great evening for power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Sergey Dyatlik helped adding 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Aleksei Umnov (197-2001) responded with 10 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Bars. They maintain second place with 19-3 record behind leader Kazygurt. Irtysh lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 13 games lost. Bars will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Irtysh will play on the road against Jambyl (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 23 Karaganda smashed Astana-2 on the road 104-64. Barsy 2 destroyed Jambyl on its own court 116-70.
The most impressive performance of 23th round was 12 points and 10 rebounds by Mahamtet Kazimov of Barsy 2.

Astana-2 - Karaganda 64-104

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Karaganda (13-8) crushed on the road bottom-ranked Astana-2 (2-19) 104-64. Karaganda made 26-of-29 charity shots (89.7 percent) during the game, while Astana-2 only scored six points from the stripe. Karaganda players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a great evening for point guard Daniil Severgin (178-2005) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Andrey Volkov (189-2004) helped adding 25 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Five Karaganda players scored in double figures. Karaganda's coach Alexander Tyutyunik felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Askar Serimbet (181-2006) responded with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Aset Amangeldinov (190-2003) scored 14 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Karaganda maintains fifth place with 13-8 record. Astana-2 lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 19 lost games. Karaganda will play against ChelSU (#8) in Kostanay in the next round. Astana-2 will play on the road against Namys in Alma-Ata and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Jambyl (4-17) was smashed by fourth ranked Barsy 2 (14-7) in Atyrau 116-70. Barsy 2 dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Jambyl's 30. Barsy 2 forced 23 Jambyl turnovers and outrebounded them 56-41 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 41 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Jambyl's players. It was a great evening for guard Sabyrzhan Ibragimov (185-2004) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Yernar Zheksenbayev (187-2001) helped adding 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Barsy 2 players scored in double figures. Barsy 2's coach Alexander Lyssyak felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest.
