Higher League Round 20: Kazygurt keep a leadership position

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Kazygurt as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Kazygurt smashed 10th ranked Astana-2 in Shymkent 94-54. Kazygurt dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Astana-2's 34. They outrebounded Astana-2 46-29 including 18 on the offensive glass. Kazygurt looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. point guard Zhalgasbek Kadyr (180-1997) contributed with 16 points and 10 assists for the winners. Kazygurt's coach Muslim Shakirov felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Askar Serimbet (181-2006) replied with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Astana-2. Kazygurt (17-1) have an impressive 13-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Newly promoted Astana-2 stay at the bottom place with 17 games lost. Astana-2 will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Kazygurt will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Karaganda on the road.
The game in Pavlodar was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Qazaqstan (17-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Irtysh (8-11). Qazaqstan defeated Irtysh 78-63. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Temirlan Dzhunusov (192-1999) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 8 rebounds and Denis Degtyarev who added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Guard Ruslan Izmaylov (183-1999) responded with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova rotated twelve players and allowed the starting five to rest. Qazaqstan have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Qazaqstan maintains second position with 17-2 record having just one point less than leader Kazygurt. Irtysh at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. Qazaqstan will play against Bars (#3) in Petropavlovsk in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Irtysh will play on the road against Barsy 2 in Atyrau and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The winners were led by Maksim Nalogov who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Coach Sergei Moor's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players saving starting five for next games. Even 14 points and 6 assists by Andrey Portnyagin did not help to save the game for Jambyl. Bars maintains third position with 16-3 record behind leader Kazygurt. Jambyl lost ninth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with 15 games lost. Bars will meet league's second-placed Qazaqstan in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jambyl will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 20 Namys was smashed by Karaganda on the road 106-79.



Karaganda - Namys 106-79

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Karaganda (12-7) crushed at home 9th ranked Namys (3-16) 106-79 on Thursday. Karaganda dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Namys' 38. Karaganda forced 19 Namys turnovers and outrebounded them 52-33 including a 39-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The winners were led by guard Stanislav Sahipov (190-2002) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds and guard Konstantin Teryukov (181-2000) supported him with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Karaganda players scored in double figures. Even 29 points and 6 assists by point guard Nurlan Zhanibek (175-1999) did not help to save the game for Namys. Guard Timur Snegirev (186-2004) added 9 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Karaganda have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 12-7 record. Namys lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the ninth place with 16 games lost. Karaganda will meet at home league's leader Kazygurt in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Namys will play against ChelSU (#8) in Kostanay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
