Higher League Round 18: No surprise as #1 Kazygurt defeat ChelSU

Higher League top team - Kazygurt (16-1) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed eighth ranked ChelSU (3-15) in Shymkent 94-64. Kazygurt dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to ChelSU's 18. They outrebounded ChelSU 58-24 including a 27-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kazygurt looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Alymzhan Maksutov (180-1994) scored 29 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Teodor Gergert (196-1999) chipped in 18 points and 18 rebounds during the contest. Kazygurt's coach Muslim Shakirov felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Adilbek Bitenov (174-2001) with 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Kazygurt have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 16-1 record. Newly promoted ChelSU keeps the eighth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Namys. Kazygurt will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. ChelSU will play on the road against Karaganda (#5) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.

Even 20 points and 8 rebounds by forward Aleksei Umnov (197-2001) did not help to save the game for Irtysh. Irtysh's coach Zhuldys Baydusenova rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Barsy 2 maintains fourth position with 12-6 record. Irtysh lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with ten games lost. Barsy 2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Irtysh will play on the road against Jambyl (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 18 Jambyl lost to Bars on the opponent's court 54-65. Bottom-ranked Astana-2 was outscored by Karaganda in a home game 61-80.



Irtysh - Barsy 2 84-91

Very expected game in Petropavlovsk where 7th ranked Jambyl (4-14) was defeated by third ranked Bars (15-2) 65-54. Bars held Jambyl to an opponent 21.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-1994) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Sergey Dyatlik (194-1997) supported him with 9 points and 6 assists. Bars' coach Sergei Moor allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 20 points and 9 rebounds by guard Berik Zulharnai (183-1994) did not help to save the game for Jambyl. Guard Andrey Portnyagin (181-1994) added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Bars have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Qazaqstan. Jambyl lost eighth consecutive game.
