Higher League Round 4: Bars defeat Karaganda

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Karaganda (3-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Bars (4-0) 81-49. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Karaganda. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Bars forced 23 Karaganda turnovers and outrebounded them 38-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Karaganda's players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Sergey Dyatlik (194-97) who helped to win the game recording 32 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Power forward Maksim Nalogov (198-94) contributed with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Guard Anton Danilenko (187-2) replied with 12 points for Karaganda. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bars have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with SCYSS. Karaganda at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They share the position with Qazaqstan. Bars is looking forward to face league's second-placed SCYSS in Alma-Ata in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Karaganda will play on the road against Qazaqstan in Alma-Ata and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Astana-2 is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to seventh ranked Jambyl (2-2) 73-68. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Andrey Portnyagin (181-94) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 8 rebounds and Igor Varlamov who added 10 points and 4 assists during the contest. Jambyl's coach Aziz Tursunbaev allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side guard Askar Serimbet (181-6) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Jambyl moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Irtysh and Barsy 2. Astana-2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with ChelSU. Jambyl will play against Namys (#9) in Alma-Ata in the next round. Astana-2 will play on the road against Barsy 2 in Atyrau and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The winners were led by Eset Zharkylov who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Even a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds by Vladislav Isaenko did not help to save the game for Namys. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Qazaqstan have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Karaganda. Namys at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with two games lost. Qazaqstan will meet at home Karaganda (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Namys will play against Jambyl (#7) and look forward to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 4 Irtysh lost to undefeated Kazygurt on the road 64-91. Winless ChelSU lost to Barsy 2 on its own court 71-89.
The most impressive performance of 4th round was 18 points and 8 rebounds by Artem Pedko of ChelSU.

Astana-2 - Jambyl 68-73

Bottom-ranked Astana-2 is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to seventh ranked Jambyl (2-2) 73-68. Jambyl forced 32 Astana-2 turnovers and had a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Andrey Portnyagin (181-94) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 8 rebounds and guard Igor Varlamov (175-98) who added 10 points and 4 assists during the contest. Kazygurt - Irtysh 91-64

No shocking result in a game when top-ranked Kazygurt (0-0) crushed 5th ranked Irtysh (2-2) in Shymkent 91-64 on Saturday. The winners were led by point guard Anuar Shakirov (180-0) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and forward Aleksei Vereshagin (200-92) supported him with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Kazygurt players scored in double figures. Even 10 points and 7 rebounds by forward Alexey Umnov (197-1) did not help to save the game for Irtysh. Guard Meyrambek Shamuratov (177-1) added 12 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Despite that victory Kazygurt went down to eighth position due to points difference. Loser Irtysh keeps the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Barsy 2 and Jambyl. Kazygurt will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Irtysh will play against ChelSU (#11) and hope to secure a win.

The winners were led by Bogdan Rabchenyuk (186-3) who scored that evening 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and center Timur Tangiev (193-3) supported him with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Four Barsy 2 players scored in double figures. Barsy 2's coach Alexander Lyssyak used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds by guard Dmitriy Luchko (193-97) did not help to save the game for ChelSU. Guard Artem Pedko (191-0) added 18 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Barsy 2 moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Irtysh and Jambyl. Newly promoted ChelSU still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Astana-2. Barsy 2 will meet at home Astana-2 (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. ChelSU will play against Irtysh in Pavlodar and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
