Seventh-ranked Veltex (10-37) made lots of trouble for second ranked Orange Vikings (31-16) in Shizuoka on Wednesday. The visitors from Matsuyama managed to secure only one-point victory 97-96. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a great shooting night for Ehime especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Mitchell Watt (208-1989, college: Buffalo, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import Shaquille Hines (201-1993, college: UTRGV) chipped in 25 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. Australian center Angus Brandt (208-1989, college: Oregon St.) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Orange Vikings have a solid series of four victories in a row. Ehime maintains second place with 31-16 record having six points less than leader Kobe S. Shizuoka at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 37 games lost. They share it with Aomori W.. Ehime will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shizuoka will play on the road against Kagoshima (#4) in Renova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Iwate. Seventh ranked Wyverns (9-38) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Big Bulls (11-36) 83-82 on Wednesday evening. James Bell contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. point guard Harumichi Ishikawa (170-1999) answered with 19 points and 9 assists for Iwate. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Yamagata maintains seventh place with 9-38 record. Iwate lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 36 games lost. Yamagata will play against higher ranked Bambitious (#6) in Nara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Iwate will play at home against Kumamoto V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Fukui. Second ranked Firebonds faced 4th placed Blowinds. Guests from Fukushima (34-13) defeated host Blowinds (27-20) 85-76. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Blowinds. It was a great evening for Jack Nunge who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 18 rebounds. Ryan Kelly responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Fukushima maintains second place with 34-13 record having just three points less than leader Kobe S. Loser Blowinds keeps the fourth position with 20 games lost. Fukushima will meet at home league's leader Shinshu in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fukui B. will play against Yokohama and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
