WJBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Fujitsu RW top Sunshine R. by three after a very close game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 10 in the WJBL took place in Kawasaki. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Sunshine R. (11-9) to third ranked Fujitsu RW (13-7) 70-67 in the game for the third place. Worth to mention a great performance of who helped to win the game recording 20 points (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). Nigerian power forward Evelyn Akhator (190-1995, college: Kentucky) contributed with 10 points for the winners. Fujitsu RW's coach Hikaru Kusaka used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Jessica Wariebimo replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for Sunshine R.Fujitsu RW have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 13-7 record having four points less than leader Toyota A. Sunshine R. lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Fujitsu RW are looking forward to face Aishin AW (#7) in Anjo in the next round. Sunshine R. will play at home against Haneda V. and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
Important game to mention about took place in Anjo. Seventh ranked Aishin AW (6-14) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Chanson V-M (8-12) 71-68 on Sunday evening. Canadian forward Niyah Becker (188-2000, college: Wake Forest) scored 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Sayaka Okamoto chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side responded with 16 points and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Aishin AW maintains seventh position with 6-14 record. Chanson V-M at the other side keeps the sixth place with 12 games lost. Aishin AW will play against higher ranked Fujitsu RW (#3) in Kawasaki in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Chanson V-M will play on the road against the league's leader Toyota A. having rather not much hope for a victory.

Mfon Joshua notched a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 6 points and 10 rebounds by Jessica Wariebimo did not help to save the game for Sunshine R.. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fujitsu RW have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 13-7 record having four points less than leader Toyota A. Sunshine R. lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Fujitsu RW will meet Aishin AW (#7) in the next round. Sunshine R. will play against Haneda V. and hope to secure a win.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Denso I. beat Haneda V. on the road 72-62. Toyota A. destroyed Eneos S. on its own court 76-55. Chanson V-M managed to outperform Aishin AW in Shizuoka 70-66. Bottom-ranked Haneda V. was rolled over Denso I. at home 45-72. Eneos S. was defeated by Toyota A. on the opponent's court 67-52.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 16 points by Saki Hayashi of Fujitsu RW.

Haneda V. - Denso I. 62-72

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Denso I. (15-5) beat bottom-ranked Haneda V. (1-19) in Tokyo 72-62 on Saturday. Maki Takada notched 26 points to lead the effort and Haruna Kasagi supported her with 15 points and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even a double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds by American center Channon Fluker (193-1997, college: CSUN) did not help to save the game for Haneda V.. Makoto Hoshizawa added 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Denso I. have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-5 record having just two points less than leader Toyota A. Haneda V. lost eighteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 19 lost games. Denso I. will meet at home Eneos S. (#5) in the next round. Haneda V. will play against Sunshine R. in Aichi and hope to win that game.

Very expected game when 5th ranked Eneos S. (9-11) was smashed by first ranked Toyota A. (17-3) in Nagoya 76-55 on Saturday. Toyota A. had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international point guard Shiori Yasuma (162-1994) notched 14 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and Chinami Yokoyama supported her with 6 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 9 rebounds by did not help to save the game for Eneos S.. Evelyn Mawuli added 22 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota A. have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-3 record. Eneos S. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 11 games lost. Toyota A. will meet at home Chanson V-M (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Eneos S. will play against the league's second-placed Denso I. in Kariya and hope to secure a win.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Chanson V-M's (8-12) road victory over 7th ranked Aishin AW (6-14) in Anjo 70-66 on Saturday. Marvelous Nwoko notched 9 points and 20 rebounds to lead the effort and Minami Shirasaki supported her with 18 points and 8 assists. Even a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds by Canadian forward Niyah Becker (188-2000, college: Wake Forest) did not help to save the game for Aishin AW. Sakura Noguchi added 11 points and 14 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Chanson V-M maintains sixth position with 8-12 record. Loser Aishin AW keeps the seventh place with 14 games lost. Chanson V-M will meet league's leader Toyota A. in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Aishin AW will play against Fujitsu RW (#3) and hope to secure a win.
