WJBL Round 11 (Regular Season): Denso I. beat Toyota A. by three after a very close game

Fifth-ranked Toyota A. (8-14) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Denso I. (18-4) in Nagoya on Saturday. The visitors from Kariya managed to secure only three-point victory 84-81. However their fans expected easier game. Denso I. made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. The former international center Maki Takada (185-1989) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points and 7 rebounds. The former international Akaho Himawari (185-1998) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Mai Yamamoto (163-1999) answered with 29 points for Toyota A.Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Denso I. maintains second place with 18-4 record behind leader Fujitsu RW. Toyota A. at the other side keeps the fifth position with 14 games lost. Denso I. are looking forward to face league's leader Fujitsu RW in Kawasaki in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toyota A. will play at home against Chanson V-M (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Eneos S. (12-9) against eighth ranked Hitachi Cougars (3-19) on Sunday night. Host Eneos S. was defeated by Hitachi Cougars in Kashiwa 93-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Eneos S.. It was a great evening for the former international Mona Tateyama (177-2002) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. Honoka Morioka helped adding 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international Saori Miyazaki (167-1995) responded with 21 points and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hitachi Cougars maintains eighth place with 3-19 record. Eneos S. at the other side dropped to the fourth position with nine games lost. Hitachi Cougars will play against higher ranked Aishin AW (#6) in Anjo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Eneos S. will play on the road against Toyota BSR in Aichi and hopes to get back on the winning track.
WJBL top team - Fujitsu RW (19-3) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat seventh ranked Toyota BSR (7-15) in Kawasaki 79-66. It was a quality performance for Yuki Miyazawa who led the winners and scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Jessica Wariebimo came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds for Toyota BSR in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 19-3 record. Toyota BSR lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 15 games lost. Fujitsu RW will meet league's second-placed Denso I. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toyota BSR will play against Eneos S. (#4) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 11: Aishin AW was beaten by Chanson V-M on the road 70-62. Eneos S. won against Hitachi Cougars on its own court 85-76. Denso I. managed to outperform Toyota A. in Kariya 82-70. Chanson V-M managed to beat Aishin AW at home 67-57. Toyota BSR was crushed by Fujitsu RW on the opponent's court 83-61.
The most impressive performance of 11th round was 11 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks by Mfon Joshua of Fujitsu RW.

It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Izoje Uche (188-2004) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds. Swingman Takano Hashikouta (168-1995) accounted for 21 points for the winning side. Chanson V-M's coach Fumikazu Nakagawa used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest.
