WJBL Round 6 (Regular Season): Denso I. lose to Toyota BSR

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Round 6 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Denso I. (10-2). They were defeated by sixth ranked Toyota BSR (5-7) 77-59 on Sunday night. Toyota BSR outrebounded Denso I. 48-29 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyota BSR looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Denso I. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Center Jessica Wariebimo (188-2005) had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 22 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Yuki Kitamura (173-1994) chipped in 27 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international Akaho Himawari (185-1998) with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyota BSR moved-up to fifth place. Denso I. at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Fujitsu RW who have the same record. Denso I. will play next round against strong Aishin AW trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Toyota BSR will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Chanson V-M in Shizuoka.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Fujitsu RW as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Denso I.) loss. Fujitsu RW defeated 5th ranked Chanson V-M in Kawasaki 82-67. The former international point guard Rui Machida (162-1993) notched 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and Yuki Miyazawa supported her with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds by the former international center Izoje Uche (188-2004) did not help to save the game for Chanson V-M. Chanson V-M's coach Fumikazu Nakagawa rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Fujitsu RW have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Denso I. Chanson V-M lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Toyota A.. Chanson V-M will play next round against Toyota BSR trying to get back on the winning streak. Fujitsu RW will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Hitachi Cougars at Hitachinaka.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Eneos S. (8-3) against fourth ranked Aishin AW (6-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Eneos S. was defeated by Aishin AW in a tough game in Anjo 64-73. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Eneos S.. The best player for the winners was Ramu Tokashiki who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Kadysha Umezawa who recorded 14 points and 5 rebounds. Eneos S.'s coach Timothy Lewis tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aishin AW maintains fourth position with 6-7 record. Loser Eneos S. keeps the third place with three games lost. Aishin AW will meet league's second-placed Denso I. in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Eneos S. will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 6: bottom-ranked Hitachi Cougars lost to Toyota A. on the opponent's court 74-89. Toyota BSR unfortunately lost to Denso I. in a home game 49-58. Eneos S. managed to beat Aishin AW on the road 73-66. Toyota A. defeated Hitachi Cougars on its own court 68-56. Chanson V-M was beaten by Fujitsu RW in Kawasaki 78-69.

Toyota A. - Hitachi Cougars 89-74

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Hitachi Cougars' (1-11) road loss to seventh ranked Toyota A. (4-8) 74-89 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was international center Aika Hirashita (177-2002) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Shiori Yasuma (161-1994) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 assists. Four Toyota A. players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Yuki Nakano (181-1996) who recorded 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Ririka Okuyama (180-2000) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota A. have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Chanson V-M. Hitachi Cougars lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Toyota A. will meet at home higher ranked Aishin AW (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hitachi Cougars will play against the league's leader Fujitsu RW (#1) in Kawasaki and hope to win that game.

Very predictable result in Aichi where first ranked Denso I. (10-2) defeated 6th ranked Toyota BSR (5-7) 58-49 on Saturday. Strangely Toyota BSR outrebounded Denso I. 46-33 including 20 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-1995) who scored 16 points. The former international point guard Mai Kawai (171-1996) chipped in 8 points and 9 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was center Jessica Wariebimo (188-2005) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and international Nanako Todo (175-2000) added 4 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Denso I. maintains first position with 10-2 record, which they share with Fujitsu RW. Toyota BSR lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. Denso I. will meet at home Aishin AW (#4) in the next round. Toyota BSR will play against Chanson V-M and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
