B1 League Round 7 (Regular Season): Shimane SM keep a leadership position

Round 7 means everything may happen in B1 League as the season just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Magic as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Magic smashed 6th ranked Golden Kings in Shimane 98-61. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Shimane SM shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Coty Clarke (201-1992, college: Arkansas, agency: Slash Sports) fired 24 points and 4 assists for the winners. Australian Nick Kay (206-1992, college: MSU Denver) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. American power forward Jack Cooley (206-1991, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) produced 6 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Alvark Tokyo and Chiba Jets. Ryukyu at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with 7 other teams. Ryukyu will play next round against Hiroshima D. trying to get back on the winning streak. Shimane SM will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Akita NH at home.
Another exciting game was played in Kanagawa between fourth ranked Sunrockers Sh. and 8th ranked Brave Thunders where Sunrockers Sh. (3-3) beat Brave Thunders (2-4) on the road with 15-point difference 69-54. Worth to mention a great performance of Kazakhstan-American point guard Anthony Clemmons (187-1994, college: Iowa) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Reid Travis contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American Alize Johnson (206-1996, college: Missouri St.) answered with 10 points and 9 rebounds for Brave Thunders. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sunrockers Sh. moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Kawasaki lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with FE Nagoya and Ibaraki R.. Sunrockers Sh. will play against Kyoto H. (#6) at home in the next round. Kawasaki will play against Gunma CT and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game where Chiba Jets (#1) beat host Saga B. (#3) 79-74 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ballooners. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was a great evening for DJ Hogg who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Yoeli Childs responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Chiba Jets maintains first place with 5-1 record, which they share with Alvark Tokyo and Shimane SM. Loser Ballooners dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with 7 other teams. Chiba Jets will meet league's second-placed Nagasaki on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saga B. will play against the league's leader Alvark Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Koshigaya A. was defeated by Akita NH in a road game 78-69. Alvark Tokyo beat FE Nagoya at home 81-77. San-en NP destroyed Nagoya DD on the opponent's court 98-72. Hiroshima D. managed to outperform Ibaraki R. in a home game 84-75. Winless Sendai 89ers managed to beat Kyoto H. on the road 82-78. Nagasaki defeated Osaka E. on its own court 81-79. Yokohama BC was smashed by Sea Horses M. in Kariya 78-59. Shiga L-Stars lost to Hokkaido L. at home 76-81. Gunma CT unfortunately lost to Tochigi Brex on the opponent's court 69-72.
The best stats of 7th round was 18 points and 9 rebounds by Johannes Thiemann of Gunma CT.




Akita NH - Koshigaya A. 78-69

There was no surprise in Akita where 7th ranked Alphas (1-5) were defeated by third ranked Happinets (3-3) 78-69 on Wednesday. Akita NH forced 22 Koshigaya A. turnovers. It was a great evening for French power forward Yannis Morin (208-1993, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American Tanner Leissner (201-1995, college: UNH) helped adding 17 points and 6 rebounds. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Alvark Tokyo looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Nagoya where 3rd placed Dolphins (4-2) were rolled over by fourth ranked San-en NP (4-2) 98-72 on Wednesday. San-en NP looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American-Nigerian swingman David Nwaba (195-1993, college: Cal Poly) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Sota Oura (182-1997) helped adding 10 points and 10 assists. Nwaba is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five San-en NP players scored in double figures.
