This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in B1 League and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

First defeat of league's leader Osaka E. (4-1) against fifth ranked SeaHorses (3-2) 87-70 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Osaka E.. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Sea Horses M. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Osaka E.'s 18. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sea Horses M. made 9 blocks. Greek-American center Zach Auguste (208-1993, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American forward Jake Layman (206-1994, college: Maryland) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American-Filipino guard Ray Parks (193-1993, agency: Slash Sports) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for Osaka E.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sea Horses M. moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Osaka E. at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. They were replaced at the leadership position by Nagasaki. Osaka E. will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Sea Horses M. will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Osaka E. at home.
Undefeated Magic (4-1) recorded its first loss in Tokyo. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked Alphas (1-4) 88-81. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Magic. Filipino-American center Kai Sotto (220-2002) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Jeff Gibbs chipped in 15 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Coty Clarke (201-1992, college: Arkansas, agency: Slash Sports) responded with 31 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Alphas left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with FE Nagoya and Hokkaido L. Shimane SM at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Koshigaya A. will play against higher ranked Shimane SM (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Shimane SM will have a break next round.
An interesting game was also tough home defeat of 8th ranked Kawasaki in a game in Kanagawa versus Yokohama BC (#5) 87-80. Damien Inglis nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Alize Johnson came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for Brave Thunders in the defeat. Yokohama BC (3-3) moved-up to third place, which they share with Sunrockers Sh. and Akita NH. Kawasaki lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: Saga B. beat Akita NH on the road 70-61. Chiba Jets won against Kyoto H. on its own court 92-84. Ryukyu unfortunately lost to Shiga L-Stars in a road game 81-89. Gunma CT recorded a loss to Nagasaki at home 72-78. Alvark Tokyo defeated San-en NP on the opponent's court 66-59. Winless Sendai 89ers were beaten by Tochigi Brex in a home game 72-76. Hokkaido L. won against FE Nagoya on the road 83-81. Ibaraki R. managed to outperform Nagoya DD on its own court 84-77. Yokohama BC recorded a loss to Kawasaki in Kanagawa 88-81. Sunrockers Sh. defeated Hiroshima D. at home 79-63.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 20 points and 6 rebounds by Kerry Blackshear Jr of Hiroshima D..




Kawasaki BT - Yokohama BC 80-87

An interesting game was also tough home defeat of 8th ranked Kawasaki in a game in Kanagawa versus Yokohama BC (#5) 87-80. French power forward Damien Inglis (206-1995, agency: Octagon Europe) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and Filipino guard Kiefer Ravena (183-1993) accounted for 18 points. American Alize Johnson (206-1996, college: Missouri St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and Hungarian-American Rosco Allen (208-1993, college: Stanford, agency: Pensack Sports) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Brave Thunders in the defeat. Everything could happen in Akita at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Ballooners and their close opponent Happinets had identical 3-2 record. But Happinets were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Saga 70-61 on Saturday night.
