B2 League Round 55: Kumamoto V. defeat Saga B.

The Regular Season in B2 League is almost over. Almost everything is clear. There are only 3 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Saga B. (42-15) on the court of third ranked Kumamoto V. on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by Kumamoto V. 79-78. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jamel McLean (202-1988, college: Xavier) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Cherif Sow (201-1992) contributed with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American Chase Fieler (202-1992, college: FGCU) answered with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Saga B.Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kumamoto V. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 34-23 record having eight points less than leader Chiba. Saga B. at the other side still keeps top position with 15 games lost. Kumamoto V. are again looking forward to face league's leader Saga B. at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saga B. will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Nagasaki (40-17) against fifth ranked Aomori W. (26-31) on Saturday night. Visiting Nagasaki was defeated by Aomori W. in a tough game in Aomori 82-88. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Nagasaki. American players dominated the game. It was a great evening for power forward EJ Montgomery (208-1999, college: Kentucky) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Davis helped adding 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side forward Matt Bonds (196-1995, college: St.Michael's) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aomori W. maintains fifth place with 26-31 record. Newly promoted Nagasaki keeps the second position with 17 games lost. Aomori W. will again play against league's second-placed Nagasaki at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nagasaki will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Koshigaya A. (43-14) against sixth ranked Yamagata (25-32) on Saturday night. Host Koshigaya A. was defeated by Yamagata in a tough game in Tokyo 80-85. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Koshigaya A.. It was an exceptional evening for James Bell who led the winners and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. Justin Harper came up with 25 points and 5 rebounds for Koshigaya A. in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Yamagata have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ehime OV. Loser Koshigaya A. keeps the second position with 14 games lost. Yamagata will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Koshigaya A. will play again against Yamagata and hope to secure a win.

Other games in round 55 were not that significant. Chiba beat Fukushima on the road 80-74. Tokyo Z won against Nishinomiya S. on its own court 85-77. Kagawa FA was outscored by Bambitious N. in Nara 96-71. Ehime OV recorded a loss to Fukuoka R. at home 64-71.
The most impressive performance of 55th round was 16 points and 17 rebounds by Kevin Kotzur of Fukuoka R..




Aomori W. - Nagasaki 88-82

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Nagasaki (40-17) against fifth ranked Aomori W. (26-31) on Saturday night. Visiting Nagasaki was defeated by Aomori W. in a tough game in Aomori 82-88. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Nagasaki. Aomori W. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Nagasaki's 32. They outrebounded Nagasaki 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Aomori W. players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American players dominated the game. It was a great evening for power forward EJ Montgomery (208-1999, college: Kentucky) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Alex Davis (206-1992, college: Fresno St., agency: Diamond Sports) helped adding 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side forward Matt Bonds (196-1995, college: St.Michael's) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and forward Jeffrey Gibbs (188-1980, college: Otterbein) scored 18 points. Four Aomori W. and five Nagasaki players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aomori W. maintains fifth place with 26-31 record. Newly promoted Nagasaki keeps the second position with 17 games lost. Aomori W. will again play against league's second-placed Nagasaki at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nagasaki will have a break next round.

Fukushima - Chiba 74-80

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Chiba (45-12) beat on the road 3rd placed Fukushima (27-30) 80-74 on Saturday. Chiba made 29-of-33 free shots (87.9 percent) during the game, while Fukushima only scored six points from the stripe. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Leo Lyons (206-1987, college: Missouri) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Kei Sugimoto (182-1992) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side. Venezuelan center Gregory Echenique (206-1990, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) came up with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Josh Harrellson (208-1989, college: Kentucky) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Fukushima in the defeat. Five Chiba and four Fukushima players scored in double figures. Fukushima's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Chiba have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Newly promoted Chiba maintains first place with 45-12 record. Loser Fukushima keeps the third position with 30 games lost. They share it with Nishinomiya S.. Chiba will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fukushima will play again against the league's leader Chiba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Nishinomiya S. (27-30) lost on the road to seventh ranked Tokyo Z (15-42) 85-77 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Reginald Buckner (206-1991, college: Ole Miss) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Point guard Tsubasa Kurihara (180-1997) accounted for 16 points and 9 assists for the winning side. American forward Jordan Hamilton (201-1990, college: Texas) came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Trey Porter (208-1996, college: Nevada) added 8 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Nishinomiya S. in the defeat. Five Tokyo Z and four Nishinomiya S. players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo Z maintains seventh place with 15-42 record, which they share with Kagawa FA. Nishinomiya S. lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with 30 games lost. They share it with Fukushima. Tokyo Z will again meet at home higher ranked Nishinomiya S. (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nishinomiya S. will have a break next round.

Bambitious N. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American-Portuguese Jeremiah Wilson (205-1988, college: Tarleton St.) who led the winners and scored 28 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American guard Christian James (194-1996, college: Oklahoma) accounted for 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Australian forward Rhys Vague (206-1996) came up with 14 points and 9 rebounds and American center Nigel Spikes (208-1989, college: Marshall) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Kagawa FA in the defeat. Five Kagawa FA players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bambitious N. maintains sixth place with 17-40 record. Kagawa FA lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 42 games lost. They share it with Tokyo Z. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Ehime OV (25-32) lost to fifth ranked Fukuoka R. (18-39) in Matsuyama 64-71 on Saturday. Fukuoka R. outrebounded Ehime OV 41-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Kevin Kotzur (203-1989, college: St.Mary's, TX, agency: Green Sports Management) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds. His fellow American import center Stephen Zimmerman (211-1996, college: UNLV) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Fukuoka R. players scored in double figures. American-Filipino forward Eugene Phelps (198-1990, college: LBSU) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Takumi Furuno (179-1993) added 14 points respectively for Ehime OV in the defeat. Ehime OV's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Fukuoka R. maintains fifth place with 18-39 record. Loser Ehime OV keeps the fourth position with 32 games lost.
