Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

B2 League round 40 most important game was a victory of Orange Vikings over their close opponent FE Nagoya 85-83 on Saturday night. Orange Vikings forced 20 FE Nagoya turnovers. Strangely FE Nagoya outrebounded Orange Vikings 37-23 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Chehales Tapscott (195-90, college: Portland St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Tatsuhiko Toshino (185-88) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Josh Hawkinson (208-95, college: WSU, agency: Wasserman) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists for FE Nagoya. FE Nagoya's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Orange Vikings maintains third position with 21-19 record having nine points less than leader Shinshu BW which they share with defeated FE Nagoya. FE Nagoya at the other side keeps the third place with 20 games lost. Orange Vikings will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. FE Nagoya will play again at home against Orange Vikings and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Kagawa FA (25-14) against fourth ranked Tokyo EX (17-22) on Saturday night. Visiting Kagawa FA was crushed by Tokyo EX in Tokyo 97-75. At the losing side American forward Kevin Kotzur (203-89, college: St.Mary's, TX) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo EX have a solid four-game winning streak. Newly promoted Tokyo EX maintains fourth position with 17-22 record. Kagawa FA at the other side keeps the second place with 14 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

An interesting game for Gunma (26-13) which hosted in Gunma one of their biggest challengers Ibaraki R. (23-17). Second ranked Gunma managed to get a 6-point victory 79-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ibaraki R.. Garrett Stutz fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Gunma's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Gunma maintains second position with 26-13 record having five points less than leader Shinshu BW. Ibaraki R. at the other side keeps the third place with 17 games lost. Gunma's next round opponent will be again Ibaraki R. (#3) in Mito, which may be the game of the day.
An interesting game for Dragonflies (33-7) which hosted in Hiroshima 4th ranked Bambitious N. (17-23). First ranked Dragonflies managed to get a 9-point victory 108-99. It was a very good performance for Thomas Kennedy who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!), 6 assists and 4 steals. Dragonflies have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 33-7 record. Bambitious N. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 23 games lost. Dragonflies will face again Bambitious N. (#4) in Nara in the next round.

Other games in round 40 were not that significant. Aomori W. was beaten by Fukushima on the road 76-67. Shinshu BW destroyed Yamagata on its own court 91-54. Kumamoto V. outscored Fukuoka R. in a road game 88-65. Koshigaya A. recorded a loss to Sendai 89ers at home 68-85. Tokyo Z was defeated by Nishinomiya S. on the opponent's court 72-65.
The most impressive performance of 40th round was 23 points and 13 rebounds by Gavin Ware of Kumamoto V..



Tokyo EX - Kagawa FA 81-86

An interesting game for Kagawa FA (25-14) which played road game in Tokyo against 4th ranked Tokyo EX (17-22). Second ranked Kagawa FA managed to get a 5-point victory 86-81. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Tokyo EX. Kagawa FA looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American forward Kevin Kotzur (203-89, college: St.Mary's, TX) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 31 points, 24 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Takayuki Kodama (166-92) supported him with 18 points and 7 assists. Four Kagawa FA players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 30 points and 19 rebounds by American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) did not help to save the game for Tokyo EX. His fellow American import forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) added 22 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Fukushima (11-27) beat at home one of their biggest challengers Aomori W. (18-21) 76-67 on Saturday. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a very good performance for point guard Yuta Osaki (179-94) who helped to win the game recording 23 points. Naturalized American guard Louis Kurihara (188-96, college: Whittier) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Shinshu BW players scored in double figures.
