Toyota captures 2nd JBL Super League title in a row
The Toyota Alvark have repeated as JBL Super League champions by
defeating the Mitsubishi Melco Dolphins 95-74 today (March 21st) in
Aichi Prefecture to win the JBL Super League Finals 3 game to none.
Mitsubishi came out strong in the 1st quarter and traded baskets
with Toyota as Toyota led by only 2 points, 24-22, at the end of the
1st period. However, with speedy PG
Louis Campbell (190-G-79, college:
Buffalo) pushing the ball and drawing fouls, Toyota widened
their lead in the 2nd quarter and led 47-38 at halftime. The 2nd
half was all Toyota as they went on a big run and pushed the lead at
one point to 26 pts, 87-61, on a
Charles O'Bannon (198-G/F-75, college:
UCLA) layup with 5:17 left in the 4th quarter. 7-year JBL
veteran F O'Bannon finished the game with 31 points and 9 rebounds
as he has now won 3 JBL Super League titles with Toyota.
With the game just concluded, final stats from the game were not
available at this time.
Notes: Toyota F
Michael Takahashi (198-F-74, college:
Cal.St. Northridge) has now won 7 JBL titles in his 11-year JBL
career-5 with now-defunct Isuzu and 2 with Toyota. The JBL will add
an expansion team in Hokkaido next season to make it a 8-team
league. The JBL will also drop the "Super League" moniker and will
just go by "JBL" next season.
