B League D3 Round 10: Tokyo HT clinch promotion - May 21, 2018
The Second Stage in B League D3 just ended. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Tokyo HT (17-3) on the court of fourth ranked Saitama Broncos on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Saitama Broncos 89-63. Saitama Broncos forced 20 Tokyo HT turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Masaya Ueda (177-93) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 assists. American forward Ferrakohn Hall (203-90, college: Memphis) contributed with 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Alex Jones (206-87, college: Seattle) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for Tokyo HT. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Saitama Broncos maintains fourth position with 8-12 record, which they share with Kagoshima. Tokyo HT at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Important game to mention about took place in Tokyo. Sixth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (2-18) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 3rd ranked Tokyo Excel. (12-8) 99-96 on Saturday evening. American players dominated the game. Guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) had a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Drew Martin chipped in 15 points and 4 steals during the contest. At the losing side forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Tokyo Excel.'s coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Tokyo Cinq R. maintains sixth position with 2-18 record. Tokyo Excel. at the other side keeps the third place with eight games lost. Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tokyo: Tokyo Excel. (#3) and Tokyo Cinq R. (#6). Tokyo Cinq R. was defeated at home 93-101 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Jordan Faison notched a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort. Even 35 points (!!!) by Andre Murray did not help to save the game for Tokyo Cinq R.. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tokyo Excel. maintains third position with 12-8 record having five points less than leader Tokyo HT. In the last game of round 10 Otsuka A. beat Kagoshima on the road 81-77. The most impressive performance of 10th round was 13 points and 8 rebounds by Gjio Bain of Kagoshima.
