Superleague Round 30: Al Kahraba is defeated by Al-Hashd in a derby game

The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Baghdad: Al-Hashd (#3) and Al Kahraba (#5). Al-Hashd (14-3) smashed visiting Al Kahraba (10-5) by 18 points 77-59. Al-Hashd held Al Kahraba to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Al-Hashd looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Al Kahraba's players. Lebanese power forward Mohamad Haidar (203-90, college: Michigan Tech, agency: BIG) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Thulfiqar Hammoodi (196-92) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Aaron Mitchell (188-89, college: Longwood) with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Al-Hashd have a solid four-game winning streak. Newly promoted Al-Hashd maintains third position with 14-3 record having eight points less than leader Al Naft. Al Kahraba lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Nift Al-Basra. Al-Hashd are looking forward to face Nift Al-Basra (#4) on the road in the next round. Al Kahraba will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Kirkuk. Seventh ranked Nift Al-Shamal (7-11) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging 10th ranked Ghaz Al-Shamal (4-13) 87-84 on Friday evening. Mohammed Al-Lawi notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Byron Ashe supported him with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 33 points (!!!) by Rekan Abdulla did not help to save the game for Ghaz Al-Shamal. Newly promoted Nift Al-Shamal maintains seventh position with 7-11 record. Ghaz Al-Shamal at the other side keeps the tenth place with 13 games lost. Nift Al-Shamal will play against higher ranked Zakho (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ghaz Al-Shamal will have a break next round.
12th ranked Al Hilla (1-16) was outscored at home by eleventh ranked AL-Adhamiya (4-15) with the biggest margin this round 88-61 on Thursday night. The best player for the winners was Rasheed Al-Ammari who scored 29 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Mohammed Abbas who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds. AL-Adhamiya maintains eleventh position with 4-15 record. Al Hilla lost fifteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost. AL-Adhamiya's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Baghdad Al-Khtot.

Al Hilla - AL-Adhamiya 61-88

12th ranked Al Hilla (1-16) was outscored at home by eleventh ranked AL-Adhamiya (4-15) with the biggest margin this round 88-61 on Thursday night. AL-Adhamiya held Al Hilla to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners.
