Important game to mention about took place in Kirkuk. Seventh ranked Nift Al-Shamal (7-11) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging 10th ranked Ghaz Al-Shamal (4-13) 87-84 on Friday evening. Nift Al-Shamal held Ghaz Al-Shamal to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Mohammed Al-Lawi notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American guard Byron Ashe (186-95, college: Longwood) supported him with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Nift Al-Shamal players scored in double figures. Even 33 points (!!!) by Rekan Abdulla did not help to save the game for Ghaz Al-Shamal. Khalid Sultan added 16 points and 15 rebounds. Newly promoted Nift Al-Shamal maintains seventh position with 7-11 record. Ghaz Al-Shamal at the other side keeps the tenth place with 13 games lost.
