Superleague Round 26: Exxon SC defeat Qazvin in the closest game of the week- February 28, 2021

Exxon SC - Qazvin 90-88 The most exciting game of round 26 in the Superleague took place in Teheran. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Qazvin (5-8) to third ranked Exxon SC (8-5) 90-88 on Saturday evening. Exxon SC shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American point guard Corin Henry (181-88, college: Tarleton St., agency: BIG) had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Mohamadreza Taghiloo chipped in 12 points and 5 assists during the contest. The former international guard Ehsan Dalirzahan (186-0) responded with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard Malcolm Grant (185-88, college: Miami, FL, agency: BIG) scored 18 points and 7 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Exxon SC maintains third position with 8-5 record having seven points less than leader Mahram. Qazvin lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Bandar Abbass. Parsa (6-5) smashed visiting Raad (1-13) by 34 points 94-60. Parsa dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Raad's 26. Parsa forced 21 Raad turnovers and outrebounded them 51-37 including 19 on the offensive glass. M Sadeghi notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Serbian center Nikola Maravic (212-89, agency: BIG) supported him with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Even 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by Adnan Douraghi did not help to save the game for Raad. Forward Mohammadamin Kamalvand (196-98) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Parsa maintains fourth position with 6-5 record. Raad lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Ayandeh Sazan. Second-ranked host Naft Abadan (10-4) was smashed by top-ranked Gorgan (14-0) 89-67. Gorgan forced 25 Naft Abadan turnovers. The best player for the winners was international Mohammad Jamshidi (199-91) who scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. American-Guinea-Bissau point guard Perry Petty (185-88, college: UTRGV) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Petty is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Gorgan players scored in double figures. The former international forward Amir Sedighi (203-93, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and international Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-90) added 16 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gorgan have an impressive 14-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 14-0 record. Naft Abadan at the other side keeps the second place with four games lost. Fifth ranked Rafsanjan (6-6) played at the court of 7th ranked Khouzestan (2-12). Rafsanjan smashed Khouzestan 89-45. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Khouzestan. Rafsanjan forced 24 Khouzestan turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Khouzestan's players. The former international swingman Saeid Mohammadi (187-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. Center Mahdi Moradinasab (202-92) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Rafsanjan players scored in double figures. Rafsanjan's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Abolfazl Mohseni replied with 17 points and Hossein Shabani added 12 points in the effort for Khouzestan. Newly promoted Rafsanjan maintains fifth position with 6-6 record. Khouzestan at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the seventh place with 12 games lost.
