IBL Round 5 (Regular Season): Dewa United keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for fourth-ranked Dewa United as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Dewa United defeated bottom-ranked Pacific Caesar in Tangerang 92-82. Dewa United dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Pacific Caesar's 36. Dewa United forced 24 Pacific Caesar turnovers. Strangely Pacific Caesar outrebounded Dewa United 36-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. American-Mexican center Joshua Ibarra (211-1995, college: HCU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard DJ Cooper (183-1990, college: Ohio) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 15 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Dewa United's coach Agustin Julbe used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Dominican forward AJ Bramah (201-1999, college: Nevada) answered with 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for Pacific Caesar. Dewa United have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Pacific Caesar at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Satya Wacana. Pacific Caesar will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Dewa United will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked RANS PIK in Gor Merpati.

Dewa United did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 86-69. American point guard DJ Cooper (183-1990, college: Ohio) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and Joshua Ibarra chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Brazilian center Joao Franca (215-1998) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Dewa United have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Tangerang lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Hangtuah. Dewa United will play against RANS PIK (#8) in Gor Merpati in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tangerang will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 5 Tangerang beat Hangtuah on the road 79-72.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 36 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds by Nick Hornsby of Hangtuah.

Hangtuah - Tangerang 72-79

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Tangerang (2-3) beat 6th ranked Hangtuah (2-3) in Jakarta 79-72. Tangerang outrebounded Hangtuah 52-38 including a 44-30 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tangerang players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Hangtuah was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Brazilian center Joao Franca (215-1998) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American forward Josh Cunningham (203-1996, college: Dayton, agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 10 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Tangerang players scored in double figures. American forward Nick Hornsby (201-1995, college: Sacramento St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and the other American import Vander Blue (196-1992, college: Marquette) scored 18 points and 6 assists. Hangtuah's coach Wahyu Jati rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Tangerang moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Hangtuah. Tangerang will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hangtuah's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Jakarta Kesatria.
