IBL Round 35 (Regular Season): #1 Dewa United is defeated by Satria Muda

The Regular Season in IBL just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Dewa United (22-4) in Surabaya on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Satria Muda (18-7) 90-75. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Dewa United. It was a great evening for Nicaraguan guard Ricardo Zamora who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Elgin Cook (196-1993, college: Oregon) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. Bahamas center Tavario Miller (203-1994, college: Texas A&M) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Satria Muda have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 18-7 record. Dewa United at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost.
The game in Pontianak was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Prawira (20-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Borneo (11-15). Prawira managed to secure a 7-point victory 99-92. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Borneo. It was an exceptional evening for American Antonio Hester (199-1990, college: Mobile, AL) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Manny Suarez accounted for 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Michael Qualls (197-1994, college: Arkansas) came up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 6 assists for Borneo in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Prawira. Defending champion maintains third place with 20-5 record having just three points less than leader Dewa United. Borneo at the other side keeps the eighth position with 15 games lost.
Fourteenth-ranked Pacific Caesar (3-23) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Simba Bogor (16-10) in Gor Merpati on Sunday. Simba Bogor managed to secure only three-point victory 79-76. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Ida Putra who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Stephen Hurt produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Simba Bogor. They maintain sixth place with 16-10 record. Loser Pacific Caesar stay dead last with 23 lost games.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 35: Bali Utd. won against Bima Perkasa on the opponent's court 85-68. Rajawali unfortunately lost to Tangerang in a home game 88-95. Satya Wacana rolled over Bima Perkasa on the road 99-79. Prawira defeated Hangtuah on its own court 91-83.



Bima Perkasa - Bali Utd. 68-85

Very expected game in Sakti where 13th ranked Bima Perkasa (4-22) was defeated by seventh ranked Bali Utd. (13-13) 85-68 on Saturday. Bali Utd. looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Xavier Cannefax (184-1989, college: WPU, agency: Interperformances) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Kierell Green (203-1997, college: Edinboro) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Cannefax is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. American Brandis Raley-Ross (189-1987, college: S.Carolina) produced 19 points and guard Avin Kurniawan (178-1997) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Bali Utd. maintains seventh place with 13-13 record. Loser Bima Perkasa keeps the thirteenth position with 22 games lost.

Chilean-Spanish center Manny Suarez (208-1993, college: Creighton) accounted for 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. There was a small surprise in Jakarta where eleventh ranked Tangerang (8-18) defeated 9th ranked Rajawali (10-16) 95-88 on Saturday. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Nick Stover (198-1993, college: USA) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Steven Green (196-1993, college: OKBU) chipped in 23 points and 9 assists. Worth to mention Stover played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Tangerang players scored in double figures. Guard Patrick McGlynn (188-1992, college: URI) produced 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Jabari Bird (198-1994, college: California) added 17 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tangerang maintains eleventh place with 8-18 record. Newly promoted Rajawali keeps the ninth position with 16 games lost.
