WCBA Round 22 of Regular Season

The Regular Season in WCBA just ended. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game of round 22 was a home defeat of 4th ranked Xiamen (12-8) by second ranked Henan (13-7) who outscored them by 20 points 85-65. It ended the three-game winning streak of Xiamen. Henan Phoenix dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Xiamen's 30. They outrebounded Xiamen 42-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. American point guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (175-1996, college: Maryland) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Imani McGee-Stafford (201-1994, college: Texas) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Taiwanese Peng Shiqing (174-1991) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Henan maintains second position with 13-7 record having seven points less than leader Hefei, which they share with Liaoning. Xiamen at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost.
Very significant was Xinjiang's (#6) just 3-point road victory against 5th ranked Shanghai. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Swordfish. The former international forward Xuemeng Wang (185-1993) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Wu Tongtong supported her with 18 points and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 43 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals by American point guard Chennedy Carter (175-1998, college: Texas A&M) did not help to save the game for Swordfish. Xinjiang (14-8) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Shandong. Shanghai at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost.
Ninth-ranked Power (7-15) gave a tough game to first ranked Flame (18-4) in Hengshui on Sunday. The visitors from Taiyuan managed to secure only three-point victory 97-94. However their fans expected much easier game. Kalani Brown fired 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Kayla Davis produced 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (made all of her ten free throws !!!) for lost side. Power's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Flame have an impressive 11-game winning streak. Shanxi maintains first position with 18-4 record. Loser Power keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 22: Beijing won against Jiangsu on the opponent's court 83-78. Shaanxi lost to defending champion Guangdong in a home game 70-104. Shandong recorded a loss to Sichuan on the road 72-76. Wuhan defeated Zhejiang on its own court 80-70. Liaoning beat Fujian Z. in Anshan 100-82. Hefei destroyed Ganzhou at home 95-62.

Jiangsu - Beijing 78-83

There was a minor upset in Nanjing where 7th ranked Jiangsu (12-10) was defeated by tenth ranked Beijing Great Wall (6-16) 83-78 on Sunday. Beijing shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Zheng Ming (178-2001) fired 17 points, 7 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Irish-Australian swingman Alice Kunek (185-1991) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Beijing Great Wall's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Xu Chenyan (200-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and American swingman Jazmine Jones (183-1996, college: Louisville) added 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Five Beijing and four Jiangsu players scored in double figures. Beijing maintains tenth position with 6-16 record. Jiangsu lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost.

Very predictable result in Weinan where second ranked Vermilion Birds (17-5) smashed 11th ranked Red Wolves (2-20) 104-70 on Sunday. Guangdong dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Red Wolves's 24. Guangdong outrebounded Shaanxi 45-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Guangdong looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Shaanxi's players. Forward Wenxia Li (184-2004) fired 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Aliyah Collier (183-1997, college: Clemson) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Five Vermilion Birds players scored in double figures. American power forward Sidney Cooks (193-1998, college: Seton Hall) produced 27 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Zhuoya Fang (166-2000) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains second position with 17-5 record behind leader Hefei, which they share with Sichuan. Shaanxi lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 20 games lost. They share the position with Zhejiang.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 4th ranked Sports Lottery's (14-8) road loss to third ranked Yuanda (17-5) 72-76 on Sunday. Sichuan looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Natasha Howard (188-1991, college: FSU, agency: LBM Management) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Bulgarian center Khaalia Hillsman (196-1996, college: Texas A&M) chipped in a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Cheyenne Parker-Tyus (193-1992, college: MTSU) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Maya Caldwell (180-1998, college: Georgia) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Sports Lottery's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Yuanda have an impressive five-game winning streak. Sichuan moved-up to second place, which they share with Guangdong. Loser Sports Lottery keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with Xinjiang.

Ninth-ranked Power (7-15) gave a tough game to first ranked Flame (18-4) in Hengshui on Sunday. The visitors from Taiyuan managed to secure only three-point victory 97-94. However their fans expected much easier game. Shanxi forced 19 Hebei turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Shanxi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. American center Kalani Brown (201-1997, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) fired 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Yuting Lin (178-1994) chipped in 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Flame players scored in double figures. Canadian guard Kayla Davis (170-1995, college: Towson) produced 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (made all of her ten free throws !!!) and Taiwanese guard Xiaotong Peng (168-1998) added 15 points and 8 assists respectively for lost side. Power's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Flame have an impressive 11-game winning streak. Shanxi maintains first position with 18-4 record. Everything went according to plan in Wuhan where eighth ranked hengfan (10-12) beat 12th ranked Golden Bulls (2-20) 80-70 on Sunday. Wuhan dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Golden Bulls's 24. Wuhan forced 19 Zhejiang turnovers. American center Olivia Nelson-Ododa (196-2000, college: UConn) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guard Peng Huaqian (178-1995) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists. Xu Anqi (175-2004) produced 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Qi Zhou (172-2003) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Four Zhejiang players scored in double figures. Golden Bulls' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Wuhan maintains eighth position with 10-12 record. Zhejiang lost eleventh consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with 20 games lost. They share the position with Shaanxi.

There was no surprise in Putian where 5th ranked Fujian Nanan (3-17) was defeated by third ranked Liaoning Hengye (13-7) 100-82 on Sunday. Liaoning dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Fujian Nanan's 42. Liaoning outrebounded Fujian Z. 46-27 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Myisha Hines-Allen (185-1996, college: Louisville) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. The other American import point guard Tea Cooper (173-1997, college: Baylor) chipped in 39 points (!!!). Liaoning Hengye's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Lin Xinyi (175-2003) produced 20 points and 4 steals and point guard Yang Rui (173-2005) added 11 points, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Five Fujian Z. players scored in double figures. Liaoning moved-up to second place, which they share with Henan. Fujian Z. lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 17 games lost.

Magic Deer made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Swordfish's players. Swordfish was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Xuemeng Wang (185-1993) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international point guard Wu Tongtong (176-1994) supported her with 18 points and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 43 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals by American point guard Chennedy Carter (175-1998, college: Texas A&M) did not help to save the game for Swordfish. Her fellow American import forward Ruthy Hebard (192-1998, college: Oregon) added 18 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Xinjiang (14-8) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Shandong. Shanghai at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost.
