The most exciting game of round 14 in the NBL took place in Shanghai. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Shanghai (8-6) to third ranked Jiangxi (10-4) 94-91 on Monday evening. Jiangxi outrebounded Shanghai 44-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Jiangxi looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American players dominated the game. Guard Michael Bryson (193-1994, college: UCSB) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Mohamed Kone (188-1998, college: Bemidji St.) contributed with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Swingman William Douglas (196-1998, college: PVAMU, agency: BIG) replied with 28 points, 7 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for Shanghai. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Jiangxi have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Shanghai at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Hebei. Jiangxi are looking forward to face Jiangsu (#9) in Yannan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shanghai will have a break next round.
The game in Hubei was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Hunan (9-5) played at the court of 6th ranked Hubei (7-7). Hunan defeated Hubei 112-97. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Hubei. American center Stephen Zimmerman (211-1996, college: UNLV) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Ramon Galloway chipped in 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American center Baylee Steele (213-1997, college: Duquesne, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hunan maintains fourth position with 9-5 record. Hubei at the other side dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Hunan will play against Jiaozuo (#10) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Hubei will have a break next round.
The game between tenth ranked Jiangsu (6-7) and 13th ranked Hangzhou (4-10) in Yannan on Monday ended with biggest points difference. Jiangsu outscored guests from Hangzhou 109-87. Henry Sims notched a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds by Artjoms Butjankovs did not help to save the game for Hangzhou. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jiangsu moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Anhui W. Hangzhou lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with ten games lost. Jiangsu will meet league's second-placed Jiangxi on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hangzhou will have a break next round.
In the last game of round 14 Jiaozuo was beaten by Hebei on the road 132-127.
The most impressive performance of 14th round was 41 points (!!!), 23 rebounds and 6 assists by Jiang Jiang of Hebei.
