WCBA Round 11 (Regular Season): Liaoning keep a leadership position

WCBA is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Liaoning Hengye as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Liaoning Hengye smashed 4th placed Xiamen in Anshan 91-69. Liaoning forced 19 Xiamen turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Myisha Hines-Allen (185-1996, college: Louisville) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. Liaoning Hengye's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. produced 17 points for the guests. Liaoning Hengye have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Xiamen at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Shanghai. Xiamen will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Liaoning will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Xiamen at home.
Another exciting game took place in Urumqi where sixth ranked Shanghai (6-5) edged by two points 7th ranked Xinjiang (5-6) 96-94. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Magic Deer. American point guard Chennedy Carter (175-1998, college: Texas A&M) orchestrated the victory by scoring 45 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Ruthy Hebard contributed with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. American forward Myisha Hines-Allen (185-1996, college: Louisville) answered with 27 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for Magic Deer. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Shanghai have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Xiamen. Xinjiang at the other side keeps the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Wuhan. Shanghai will play against Zhejiang (#11) in Yiwu in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Xinjiang will play on the road against Beijing (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Henan Phoenix (6-4) against fourth ranked Xiamen (6-5) on Tuesday night. Host Henan Phoenix was defeated by Xiamen in a tough game in Jiyuan 75-79. It was a great evening for Peng Shiqing who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Imani McGee-Stafford responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Xiamen maintains fourth place with 6-5 record, which they share with Shanghai. Loser Henan Phoenix keeps the third position with four games lost. Xiamen will meet league's leader Liaoning in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Henan will play against Ganzhou and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 11 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Hefei crushed Ganzhou in a road game 94-49. Shanxi was smashed by Hebei at home 78-100. Jiangsu won against Beijing on the opponent's court 74-71. Guangdong outscored Shaanxi in a home game 97-77. Wuhan recorded a loss to Zhejiang on the road 81-80. Shandong was defeated by Sichuan on its own court 97-103.

Ganzhou - Hefei 49-94

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Ganzhou (0-10) was crushed at home by second ranked Hefei (8-2) 94-49 on Tuesday. Hefei outrebounded Ganzhou 49-23 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Hefei looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Jaime Nared (188-1995, college: Tennessee) who led her team to a victory scoring 8 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Ting Wang helped adding 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Hefei players scored in double figures. American point guard Chennedy Carter (175-1998, college: Texas A&M) responded with 8 points and 7 assists and her fellow the other American import import forward Ruthy Hebard (192-1998, college: Oregon) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hefei have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 8-2 record behind leader Guangdong. Loser Ganzhou still closes the standings with ten games lost. Hefei will meet at home Fujian Z. (#5) in the next round. Ganzhou will play against Henan in Jiyuan and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Henan Phoenix (6-4) against fourth ranked Xiamen (6-5) on Tuesday night. Host Henan Phoenix was defeated by Xiamen in a tough game in Jiyuan 75-79. Shanxi - Hebei 78-100

There was a surprise result in Taiyuan where ninth ranked Power (4-7) smashed second-ranked Flame (7-4) 100-78 on Wednesday. Hebei dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Flame's 50. Hebei looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Kayla Davis who led her team to a victory scoring 44 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (on 19-of-24 shooting from the field). Wang Wang helped adding 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Power players scored in double figures. American center Kalani Brown (201-1997, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import center Queen Egbo (193-2000, college: Baylor) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Flame's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Hebei maintains ninth place with 4-7 record. Loser Flame dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Shandong and Sichuan. Hebei will meet at home higher ranked Shandong (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Shanxi will play against Wuhan and hope to secure a win.

Beijing - Jiangsu 71-74

Very expected game when 10th ranked Beijing Great Wall (3-8) was edged at home by fourth ranked Jiangsu (8-3) 74-71 on Wednesday. Jiangsu dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Beijing Great Wall's 32. Jiangsu looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American center Jillian Alleyne (190-1994, college: Oregon) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Xu Chenyan helped adding 10 points and 9 rebounds. American center Kai James (196-1995, college: FSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and the other American import point guard Tiffany Mitchell (175-1994, college: S.Carolina) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Jiangsu moved-up to second place. Beijing lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Jiangsu will meet league's leader Guangdong in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Beijing will play against Xinjiang (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very predictable result in Dongguan where leader Vermilion Birds (11-0) outscored 12th ranked Red Wolves (1-10) 97-77 on Wednesday. Guangdong dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Red Wolves's 26. Guangdong outrebounded Shaanxi 42-24 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guangdong looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for Wenxia Li who led her team to a victory scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Mingzhu Zhang helped adding 19 points and 9 rebounds. American center Jillian Alleyne (190-1994, college: Oregon) responded with 19 points and 6 assists and the other American import power forward Sidney Cooks (193-1998, college: Seton Hall) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vermilion Birds have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 11-0 record. Shaanxi lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with ten games lost. Guangdong will meet at home league's second-placed Jiangsu in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Shaanxi will play against Sichuan (#4) in Chengdu and hope to win that game.

There was a minor upset in Yiwu where 8th ranked hengfan (5-6) was edged by eleventh ranked Golden Bulls (2-9) 81-80 on Wednesday. Strangely Wuhan outrebounded Zhejiang 46-27 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Fengyi Sun who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. Yu Jiajin helped adding 19 points and 5 rebounds. Nigerian-American guard Ezinne Kalu (173-1992, college: SSU) responded with a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists and American power forward Peyton Williams (193-1998, college: Kansas St.) scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Zhejiang and four Wuhan players scored in double figures. hengfan's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zhejiang maintains eleventh place with 2-9 record. Wuhan lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Xinjiang. Zhejiang will meet at home higher ranked Shanghai (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wuhan will play against Shanxi and will have a slim chance for a victory.

There was a small surprise in Penglai where fifth ranked Yuanda (7-4) won against 3rd placed Sports Lottery (7-4) 103-97 on Thursday. Sichuan dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Sports Lottery's 36. Sichuan forced 22 Shandong turnovers and outrebounded them 49-33 including 38 on the defensive glass. Sichuan looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Natasha Howard (188-1991, college: FSU, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. Siyu Wang helped adding 22 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. American guard Maya Caldwell (180-1998, college: Georgia) responded with 26 points and 7 rebounds and Junwei Cao scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sichuan moved-up to third place, which they share with Shandong and Shanxi. Sichuan will meet at home Shaanxi (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shandong will play against Hebei (#9) in Hengshui and hope to secure a win.
