This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-best Yuanda (4-2) to ninth ranked Beijing Great Wall (3-4) 74-72 on Wednesday evening. It was a good game for American center Kai James (196-1995, college: FSU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. contributed with 12 points and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Natasha Howard (188-1991, college: FSU, agency: LBM Management) replied with 17 points and 5 rebounds for Sichuan. Yuanda's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Beijing moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Shanghai and Xinjiang. Sichuan at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Shanxi and Hefei. The best for the losing side was American forward Cheyenne Parker-Tyus (193-1992, college: MTSU) with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Sports Lottery's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Xinjiang went down to seventh position due to points difference, which they share with Beijing and Shanghai. Shandong at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Wuhan. Xinjiang will play against higher ranked Wuhan (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Shandong will play against Shaanxi in Weinan and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Xiamen (3-3) against 114th ranked Hefei (4-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting Xiamen was crushed by Hefei in Hefei 78-58. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Xiamen. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Jaime Nared notched 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Hefei's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 24 points by Aisha Sheppard did not help to save the game for Xiamen. Hefei moved-up to second place, which they share with Shanxi and Sichuan. Loser Xiamen dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Henan. Hefei will meet at home league's leader Liaoning in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Xiamen will have a break next round.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 6: Liaoning beat Henan on the road 69-59. Winless Ganzhou was destroyed by Fujian Z. on its own court 76-95. Guangdong outscored Wuhan in Dongguan 90-68. Jiangsu rolled over Shaanxi at home 95-68. Hebei was crushed by Shanghai on the opponent's court 107-80. Zhejiang was smashed by Shanxi in a home game 57-105.
