CBA Round 41 (Regular Season): Shanxi L. edge Shandong H. by one point

The Regular Season in CBA is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 7 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 41 in the CBA took place in Jinan. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Heroes (26-13) to second ranked Loongs (30-9) 120-119 on Thursday evening. Shanxi L. forced 23 Shandong H. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 37 personal fouls committed by Shandong H. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Guinean-American Hamidou Diallo (198-1998, college: Kentucky) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. American Brandon Goodwin (188-1995, college: FGCU) chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. American-Albanian point guard Dallas Moore (185-1994, college: UNF) produced 31 points for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Loongs have a solid series of four victories in a row. Shanxi L. maintains second place with 30-9 record having five points less than leader Guangsha L. Shandong H. at the other side keeps the fifth position with 13 games lost. Shanxi L. are looking forward to face Qingdao E. (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Shandong H. will play against Shenzhen L. and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Leader Guangsha Lions delivered the 34th victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Guandong Tigers (26-14) 110-94 in Hangzhou. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Guandong Tigers. American Barry Brown Jr (190-1996, college: Kansas St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 8 assists. Junlong Zhu contributed with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Trey Burke (183-1992, college: Michigan) answered with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Guangdong ST. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guangsha Lions have a solid series of three victories in a row. Guangsha L. maintains first place with 34-6 record. Guangdong ST at the other side keeps the sixth position with 14 games lost. Guangsha L. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Guangdong ST will play on the road against Zhejiang GB. (#9) in Hangzhou and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Nineteenth-ranked Sturgeons (7-32) made lots of trouble for third ranked Flying Tigers (28-11) in Jinjiang on Friday. The visitors from Urumqi managed to secure only one-point victory 104-103. However their fans expected much easier game. Lin Qi stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Louis King responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Xinjiang maintains third place with 28-11 record having seven points less than leader Guangsha L. Loser Sturgeons keeps the nineteenth position with 32 games lost. Xinjiang will meet Guangzhou (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Fujian S. will have a break next round.

Other games of round 41 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Ningbo R. was crushed by Beijing D. in a road game 127-92. Guangzhou beat Sichuan at home 87-79. Shanghai won against Jilin NE T. on the opponent's court 133-127. Nanjing managed to outperform Zhejiang GB. in a home game 99-93.



Shandong H. - Shanxi L. 119-120

Beijing D. - Ningbo R. 127-92

There was no surprise in Beijing where 17th ranked Rockets (10-30) were crushed by fourth ranked Ducks (28-12) 127-92 on Friday. Beijing D. dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Rockets's 32. Beijing D. forced 19 Ningbo R. turnovers and outrebounded them 50-37 including 35 on the defensive glass. Beijing D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Beijing D. made 8 blocks. American point guard Eugene German (183-1997, college: NIU) stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import center Richard Solomon (208-1992, college: California, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). American swingman Ronald March (196-1993, college: Philander Smith) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican point guard Jordan Howard (180-1996, college: Cent Arkansas) scored 23 points. Five Beijing D. and four Ningbo R. players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ducks have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Beijing D. maintains fourth place with 28-12 record. Loser Rockets keeps the seventeenth position with 30 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

American forward Louis King (201-1999, college: Oregon) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Yang Zou (198-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds. Four Fujian S. players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. No shocking result in a game in Guangzhou where sixteenth ranked Loong Lions (11-29) defeated 18th ranked Blue Whales (8-32) 87-79 on Friday. American center Tyshaun Crawford (216-1999, college: Augusta) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import Jamaal Franklin (196-1991, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Five Loong Lions players scored in double figures. U.S. Virgin Islands-American forward Marcus Georges-Hunt (196-1994, college: Georgia Tech) responded with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Croatian center Marin Maric (211-1994, college: DePaul, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds. Loong Lions have a solid series of three victories in a row. Guangzhou maintains sixteenth place with 11-29 record. Sichuan lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 32 games lost. Guangzhou will meet at home higher ranked Xinjiang (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sichuan will play against Nanjing (#12) and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game in Changchun where 14th ranked Jilin Tigers (13-27) were defeated by tenth ranked Sharks (24-15) 133-127 on Friday. Shanghai shot 60.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 22 long-distance shots on high 57.9 percentage. Shanghai looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists. American forward Kenneth Lofton Jr (201-2002, college: La Tech) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward DJ Wilson (208-1996, college: Michigan) chipped in 26 points and 4 assists. American guard Dominique Jones (193-1988, college: S.Florida) responded with a triple-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 15 assists and Czech Tomas Kyzlink (198-1993) scored 27 points and 5 assists. Four Shanghai and five Jilin NE T. players scored in double figures. Jilin Tigers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Shanghai maintains tenth place with 24-15 record. Jilin NE T. lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 27 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Nanjing made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. American Jalen Harris (196-1998, college: Nevada) stepped up and scored 26 points for the winners and Israeli-American forward TJ Leaf (208-1997, college: UCLA) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Monkey Kings' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American Gabe York (190-1993, college: Arizona) responded with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import guard RJ Nembhard (195-1999, college: TCU) scored 16 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Nanjing maintains twelfth place with 20-20 record. Loser Golden Bulls dropped to the ninth position with 15 games lost.
