WCBA Round 36 (Regular Season): Shanxi lose to Beijing

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Top ranked Flame (23-8) recorded its eighth loss on the court of fifth ranked Beijing Great Wall on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Beijing Great Wall 78-70. Beijing outrebounded Shanxi 44-21 including a 15-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Beijing looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Bulgarian center Khaalia Hillsman (196-1996, college: Texas A&M) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Zheng Ming (178-2001) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Chen Yujie (178-2000) who recorded 17 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Beijing maintains fifth position with 14-17 record. Shanxi lost third consecutive game. They still keep top place with eight games lost.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Golden Bulls (15-16) against fifth ranked Magic Deer (7-24) on Saturday night. Host Golden Bulls were defeated by Magic Deer in a tough game in Yiwu 84-89. It was a good game for American forward NDea Jones (188-1999, college: Texas A&M) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Zhu Meiqi contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. point guard Wang Jiaqi (173-1999) replied with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 11 assists for Zhejiang. Xinjiang maintains fifth position with 7-24 record, which they share with Ganzhou. Zhejiang at the other side keeps the third place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Hefei.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Hohhot. Third ranked Mongolia faced second-best Vermilion Birds. Host Mongolia (22-9) defeated guests from Dongguan (22-9) 86-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Vermilion Birds. Worth to mention a great performance of Kalani Brown who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was Huang Sijing with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Vermilion Birds' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mongolia have an impressive six-game winning streak. Inner M. moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Guangdong.

Rest of the games of round 36 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Jiangsu defeated Fujian in Nanjing 85-67. Shanghai beat Hebei at home 92-81. Shandong was destroyed by Sichuan on the opponent's court 91-71.

Fujian - Jiangsu 67-85

There was no surprise in Putian where 6th ranked Fujian Nanan (1-30) was defeated by fourth ranked Jiangsu (12-19) 85-67 on Saturday. Jiangsu dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Fujian Nanan's 32. They outrebounded Fujian 49-29 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Jiangsu looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American forward Michaela Onyenwere (183-1999, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 9 rebounds and international forward Luo Xinyu (187-2001) who added 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Jiangsu players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Tearra Banks (188-1995, college: Austin Peay) with 19 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Roxy Barahman (173-1998, college: Yale) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jiangsu maintains fourth position with 12-19 record. Fujian lost twelfth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 30 games lost.

No shocking result in a game in Shanghai where fourth ranked Swordfish (20-11) defeated 6th ranked Power (4-27) 92-81 on Saturday. Shanghai outrebounded Hebei 43-24 including a 14-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shanghai looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican-American Arella Guirantes (181-1997, college: Rutgers) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Brazilian center Kamilla Cardoso (201-2001, college: S.Carolina) who added 15 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Five Swordfish players scored in double figures. Swordfish's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American-Lebanese forward Trinity Baptiste (183-1998, college: Arizona) with 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and American guard Destiny Littleton (175-1999, college: USC) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds.
