CBA Round 2 (Regular Season): Beijing rally past Jiangsu

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in CBA. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Royal Fighters smashed Jiangsu Dragons in Beijing 109-84. Beijing shot 20 for 28 from the free-throw line, while Jiangsu D. only scored four points from the stripe. Beijing forced 20 Jiangsu D. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Jiangsu D.'s players. 25 personal fouls committed by Jiangsu D. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Fan Zhang (195-1996) scored 21 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American center Jared Sullinger (206-1992, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. American guard Terquavion Smith (193-2002, college: NC State) responded with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jiangsu Dragons will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Royal Fighters will try to continue on its current victory against Xinjiang in Urumqi.

Even 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by American center Baylee Steele (213-1997, college: Duquesne) did not help to save the game for Fujian S.. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneers will play against Shanghai on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sturgeons will play against Liaoning in Yingkou to get more than just one victory in their record.
Quite upsetting was Ningbo R.'s 21-point home defeat in a game versus Beijing D. who crushed hosts The best player for the winners was Eugene German who scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Nick Rakocevic produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Beijing D. will meet at home Sichuan in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Ningbo R. will play against Nanjing and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Guangzhou lost to Qingdao E. on the opponent's court 80-109. Shandong H. managed to outperform Guangdong ST in a home game 115-105. Sichuan lost to undefeated Shanxi L. on the road 91-108. Guangsha L. defeated Nanjing on its own court 115-112. Shenzhen L. lost to Xinjiang in Urumqi 117-130.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by Dedric Lawson of Xinjiang FT.




Fujian S. - Tianjin 104-115

Sturgeons recorded a loss in Jinjiang. Hosts were defeated by Pioneers 115-104. Tianjin made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. American forward Scottie James Jr. (202-1996, college: Liberty, agency: Pensack Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 27 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and Taiwanese guard Ting-Chien Lin (193-1999, college: Bryant) supported him with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Even 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by American center Baylee Steele (213-1997, college: Duquesne) did not help to save the game for Fujian S.. His fellow American import point guard Frank Mason III (182-1994, college: Kansas) added 18 points and 12 assists for the hosts. Four Tianjin and five Fujian S. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneers will play against Shanghai on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sturgeons will play against Liaoning in Yingkou to get more than just one victory in their record.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Ruize Wang (197-1995) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Myles Powell (188-1997, college: Seton Hall) chipped in 23 points. Four Eagles players scored in double figures. American guard Davion Warren (198, college: Texas Tech) produced 22 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and his fellow American import swingman William Douglas (196-1998, college: PVAMU, agency: BIG) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Ducks looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Eugene German (183-1997, college: NIU) who scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international Xiaochuan Di (205-1993) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Serbian-American power forward Nick Rakocevic (211-1997, college: USC, agency: Slash Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American swingman Ronald March (196-1993, college: Philander Smith) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts.
