Malik Newman (ex Avtodor) signs at Jilin Tigers

Malik Newman

Jilin Northeast Tigers (CBA) landed 27-year old American 190cm guard Malik Newman (college: Kansas) for new season. He played most recently at Avtodor in Russian VTB United League. In 22 games he averaged impressive 16.4ppg, 3.8rpg and 3.1apg last season. He was also voted League Player of the Week (2 times). Newman also played for Golden Bulls earlier that season. The other team he played shortly was Avtodor Saratov (VTB United League).
He represented USA at the FIBA U17 World Championships All Tournemnt Team and MVP ten years ago. During this event he scored an average of 14.9 points per game and had 4.9 rebounds per game.
Newman is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in six different countries playing on three different continents. He is familiar with European, Asian and of course North American leagues. Newman has played previously professionally in Israel (Ironi Nahariya), Turkey (Bursaspor), NBA (Cleveland Cavaliers), NBA G League (Sioux Falls Skyforce and Cleveland Charge) and NBA Summer League (Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz Blue).
Among many awards his college team won Big 12 Tournament in 2018. He was selected to VTB United League All-Star Game in 2023.
Newman graduated from University of Kansas in 2018 and it will be his seventh season in pro basketball. He played also for Mississippi State University for one year.
