There was a minor upset when their close opponentNiigata A. (5-29) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Orange Vikings (9-25) 104-92 on Sunday. Ehime outrebounded Niigata A. 43-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. Ehime looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American-Filipino forward Eugene Phelps (198-1990, college: LBSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Point guard Takumi Furuno (178-1993) helped adding 22 points and 10 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Point guard Katsumi Takahashi (180-2000) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Stacy Davis (198-1994, college: Pepperdine) scored 23 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Niigata A. players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ehime maintains seventh place with 9-25 record which they share with defeated Niigata A. . Loser Niigata A. keeps the seventh position with 29 games lost.
