Regular Season Round 19: Sendai 89ers - Sea Horses M. 76-83

There was a minor upset in Sendai where their close opponent 89ers (8-11) were defeated by fourth ranked SeaHorses (11-8) 83-76 on Sunday. Sea Horses M. shot 24 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Sendai 89ers only scored eight points from the stripe. It was a great evening for American power forward Davante Gardner (203-1991, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import forward Jake Layman (206-1994, college: Maryland) helped adding 19 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American Nathan Boothe (208-1994, college: Toledo) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Ukrainian center Volodymyr Gerun (208-1994, college: Portland) scored 9 points and 11 rebounds. 89ers' coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for SeaHorses. Sea Horses M. moved-up to third place, which they share with Chiba Jets and Shimane SM. Loser 89ers keep the fourth position with 11 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Sea Horses M. will meet at home Toyama G. (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sendai 89ers will play against FE Nagoya (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
