Regular Season Round 5: Al Rayyan - Al Arabi 63-71

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss ofAl Rayyan (3-2) in Doha on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Al Arabi (4-1) 71-63 . It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Arabi outrebounded Al Rayyan 38-25 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Nick Stover (198-1993, college: USA) who scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Khalid Abdi (199-1987) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Stover is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Al Arabi's coach Hatem Mamlouk used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Senegalese power forward Mouhammad Faye (207-1985, college: SMU) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international point guard Abdulla Mousa (184-2008) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Al Arabi keeps a position of league leader. Defending champion Al Rayyan dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Al Ahli D. and Qatar Club. Al Arabi are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Al Khor (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Rayyan's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
