There was no surprise when 6th ranked Iwate (1-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Kumamoto V. (6-3) 78-71 on Sunday. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. Guard Terrance Woodbury (203-1987, college: Georgia) fired 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Center Jamel McLean (203-1988, college: Xavier) chipped in 3 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Woodbury attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. Kumamoto V.'s coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Kelvin Martin (196-1989, college: Charleston So.) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and forward Nate Grimes (202-1996, college: Fresno St., agency: Agency) added 6 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Kumamoto V. have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Iwate lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Niigata A.. Kumamoto V. will meet at home Ehime OV (#6) in the next round. Iwate will play against the league's leader Fukuoka R. and hope to win that game.
